“You’re my number one. Always will be,” I told her, my hand on her cheek as she looked up at me. Those brown eyes that I’ve loved for years, the ones that spoke so many truths.

She was in my bed.

I knew that it was a bad idea, sleeping with her. We were both a little bit wasted from celebrating her twenty-first but those eyes...

They told me she was with this, one-hundred percent.

“You’re my number one, too,” Savannah whispered, her words strong and sure. Her fingers played with the belt loops of my jeans, but neither of us was rushing anything. I wanted to taste every inch of her, and to start, I wanted her mouth.

I wanted to devour and learn her.

Swallow her moans and let my hands wander as her mouth played against mine, telling me without words she wanted me as much as I wanted her.

“I’m going to kiss you now.”

Her smile was wide. “I was hoping you would.”

But as my lips dropped to hers, the woman in front of me changed.

No longer was it Savannah, but it was Bella.

I tried to pull back before my lips landed, but Bella’s hands were on my head, forcing me to her.

Before I could stop it, the words were out again.

“You’re my number one.”

I woke suddenly, confused at the course of my dream.

But just as I started to get my bearings, I heard the soft sound coming from behind me.

“You’re my number one.”

It was my voice, followed by...

“That’s the sweetest thing anyone has ever told me.”

And that was Bella’s voice.

Then it was silent for a brief moment, before, “You’re my number one,” played again.

Suddenly, the timing of Savannah’s need to get away made sense.

I remembered that day on the show, and knew that it was when I was in the top four. It had to have been the most recent episode.

“That’s the—” Silence. Maybe even a sniffle. “You’re my number one.”

Shit. Was she crying?

I didn’t know what to do.

For all my bravado earlier before bed, I was suddenly at a loss for words, and I knew that if I told Savannah I was awake, she’d freak out.

But I also couldn’t keep hearing the words that were once only for Savannah, being told to Bella in a moment of weakness.

A moment where I was no longer seeing Bella, but imagining Savannah.
