“Hello, Rudra.”

“What the hell, Khushi? That damn AR Group won the deal. How did this happen?” He yells the moment he hears me.

No hi or hello nor does he ask me where I am or if I am fine, he just keeps yelling. Rudra is so loud that even Aarav can hear what he is saying. It’s news to me that AR Group won the deal and not us. This is the same event I was supposed to attend at the Hyatt Hotel tonight. I glance at Aarav who grips the steering wheel so tight as if he would break it.

“You had told me everything is in control, right? Then how did this happen? How did the AR Group win?” Rudra keeps scolding me and now Aarav loses his mind again. He is about to snatch my phone to speak to Rudra but I grab his wrist and put his hand back on the steering wheel and even then, I don’t leave his hand. Not until I finish this conversation. I pass him a pleading look to not mess up with this situation, the more than it already is. Rudra is mad for losing the deal. Even I am, but knowing I am with Aarav at the moment will only escalate the matter.

“And where the hell are you? Why are you not at the event?” Rudra continues to bark.

“I am on my way home. An incident took place while I was driving there.”

“What incident?” His voice softens but he is too late for that. I didn’t like the way he spoke to me.

“I’ll tell you at home. Bye.”

Disconnecting the call, I turn away from even Aarav and look outside the window. It’s hard not to compare the obsession, passion and reactions of Aarav with those of Rudra’s towards me. His lack of interest in even realizing that I wasn’t wearing that ring from the past few days is already disturbing.

“Are you okay?” Aarav’s voice breaks my stupor so putting fake confidence on my face, I turn back to him.

“You asked that too early, didn’t you?”

“If you’d let me take care of you, you wouldn’t be in any worse situations ever,” he sighs.

“I don’t need to be taken care of, Aarav” I snap. “Neither by Rudra nor by you. Only because you saved me tonight from a mishap doesn't mean I am counting or depending on you.”

“That’s not what I meant.”

I know he didn’t. But I am too confused at the moment. Guilty and angry too that I am unable to pick my side. After a few seconds of silence again, Aarav continues.

“Despite having proof, you are busy sidelining those and for whom? For a man like Rudra Singh who doesn’t even talk decently to you?”

“You don’t know anything about him. I do. I have lived with him for two years as far as I remember.”

“And you have lived with me more than that,” he debates. “Sad that you don’t remember anything.”

I look at his painful expression while he keeps his eyes glued on the road. Suddenly the softness fades and his expressions turn darker when he glances at me again.

“You are not risking going anywhere alone without security hereon. If you don’t want to hire one, I will.”

“Aarav?” I shout.

“No negotiations, Jaan. I know what I am trying to protect and I’m not giving this right for you to choose. I have been stalking you so far, now my men will do that for your safety and make sure you are safe all the effing time. You won’t even come to know you are being watched.”

“That’s awful. Only because I don’t see them around, doesn't mean I would be comfortable being watched, Aarav. Don’t put me into more trouble than I already am.”

“I am saving us both from additional trouble.”

Before I can argue, his phone rings. I look away in anger while he answers the phone call.

“Yea, sweetheart. What is my baby doing?”

Again, though he hasn’t put his phone on speaker, I can still hear his daughter’s voice. My daughter’s voice. If.. I am Jhanvi.

“Daddy, what gift will we give Amaya on her birthday?”

Aarav thinks for a second.

“Can we give her a teddy?”
