Never in my life have I been this angry. The moment I had first met Jhanvi at the party after two years of her absence, right from that instant I had this feeling Rudra Singh was hiding something big. And today we have enough evidence that I was right.

“Aarav tell me. What happened? And who is this Akash?”

I put ease to her queries.

“Akash is the spy I hired to investigate Rudra. Just a few days back he had been to Scotland and we have some solid proof finally that Khushi Thakur had never been there. It was always just Rudra Singh who was present during the time of your accident. I don’t know how he met you Jhanvi because only he could tell us that. But he knows you are not his fiancée. He knew this right from the time he met you.”

Her face falls.

“How can you be so sure?”

“Because he was giving you a drug all these years so that your memories don’t come back.” I reveal in frustration.

“Drug?” Jhanvi repeats.

“Yes. He was worried that if your memories return, you’ll remember your real identity. That you are Jhanvi and not Khushi Thakur and that’s what he didn’t want you to know.”

Jhanvi stares at me in disbelief. I know it’s hard for her to process all this but it’s true.

“Did he make a special prasad for you every day?” I ask and she shakes her head acknowledging it.

“Yes. He is a strong devotee of God. He prayed every morning and made a special Prasad by himself for all of us. In fact, he ate it too, Aarav.”

“But he gave you the one which had that medicine injected. The medicine which never let your memories return.”

Jhanvi puts her palm over her mouth to suppress the shock. I grab her arms to give her some support.

“The servant in Rudra’s Juhu Villa has confessed it. Seems he had seen Rudra doing so once and had confronted him too. Rudra paid him money to shut his mouth.”

She’s again taken aback by my words. I know how much she is hurt by this. She trusted Rudra for two long years.

“That man has played with your health, Jaan. That medicine could have damaged your body in other ways. I… I swear I’m going to kill him with my bare hands. I’m not letting him walk away unscathed. I promise.”

I scoop Jhanvi in my arms and she literally sobs. I keep rocking her.

“Rudra is hiding now because he knows all this will come out and he’ll have to face us. But wherever he is, I’m going to find him.”

“I trusted him-” Jhanvi whimpers. “He was a good man to me. He.. he never touched me, Aarav. I thought he was a good man, giving me hope that I’ll get my memories back one day. I never thought he could go to this extent.”

Rudra broke Jhanvi’s trust already but nothing beats this bitter truth. He has crossed every line by doing so with my wife. I pull back Jhanvi and wipe her tears.

“Don’t waste your tears for him. He doesn't deserve it.”

“I am worried for Khushi. The real Khushi Thakur. Where is she?”

I have the same concerns. If Rudra knew all the time that Jhanvi is not his fiancée then he also must have known where Khushi Thakur is and what happened to her? Even if they had a break-up once, why didn’t she come out in the open when he was introducing my wife as his Khushi to the whole world? I can’t be sure of what happened to Khushi but I’ll find that out too.

“We’ll find her. But the first thing we will do tomorrow is getting you thoroughly checked up. We need to know if the medicine is still keeping you from getting your memories back.”

Jhanvi agrees but she cuddles me hard in worry. So, this time I lean down and carry her in my arms. She doesn't mind. In a minute we are back in the bedroom and I put Jhanvi on the bed where Aarvi is sleeping peacefully. Wasting no time further, I lay next to her, spooning my wife, kissing her face and hair, stroking her back, to put her to sleep. No matter what, Rudra Singh will have to pay the price of his sins.

CHAPTER 32

Rudra

Almost a month now that I am hiding in Mumbai, keeping an eye on the Raichand couple and I get to know from my father that she did a DNA test which proved that she was Jhanvi and not Khushi. The conversation I had with my father today when he gave me this information, still resonates in my head.

“She is not your Khushi, Rudra. She is Jhanvi.”
