When I reach there, Akash and his team have surrounded Rudra who is sitting on a chair. He is obviously panicked because he hadn’t expected us to catch hold of him that easily. The moment I reach, I march straight to him and punch his face. Then dragging him on his feet, I hit his face again, so hard that his nose bleeds. He tries to hit me too but I duck myself and punch his abdomen. Aman and Akash try to come in between but I push them away and keep kicking Rudra who has fallen on the ground.

“How dare you try to kill my wife?”

Bending down, I pull him back on his feet and hit him straight to the wall. Rudra groans in pain as I kick him with my knee on his groin.

“You kept Jhanvi away from me for two years?” I kick him again. “You gave her a medicine which could harm her and kept Jhanvi’s memories from returning-” I punch his nose. “And today you tried to kill her.. I won’t spare you, Rudra.. You are dead..” I pull him closer. “You hear that? You are dead..”

I take out my gun from the pant pocket and aim it on his head.

“Aarav, Stop” Aman shouts. “You can’t shoot him. He’ll be punished by the law. We have his confession.”

To hell with that confession. I always carry a gun in my car for safety and I have a license for it too. Just that today, I have got the chance to make good use of it.

I unlock my gun and I’m about to pull the trigger when Akash and Aman stop me.

“Don’t be foolish, Aarav. What will you get killing him? You have such a wonderful family. Your wife is back and you should think about them. Just let it go.”

They are right. I have a family. Killing someone is not going to let me live in peace with them. Just when I finally lower my weapon, the police enter the scene and take the control of the situation.

“We have his recorded confession.” Akash hands over some tape to the police. Confession? What confession? I stare at Akash and then they tell me everything while the police arrest Rudra and take him away.

***************

Almost two hours later I enter the same emergency room where I’d left my wife. Jhanvi is talking to Daadi and the rest of the family but the moment she sees me, her eyes tear. I reach her bed and the family disperses, giving us our moment.

I sit next to her on the bed and touch her face.

“How are you feeling now?”

Jhanvi stares at me like she’s seeing me after ages.

“Jaan, talk to me.” I urge and she smiles.

“I am good.” She strokes my jaw, just the way she used to do before. Jhanvi loved my rough stubble and hardly let me trim it more than she liked seeing me in. I bend her head and place a kiss on her forehead.

“Take me home.”

“I will. Let the doctors confirm you are fine; I am taking you straight to bed with me.”

“I would like that.” She smiles but soon other queries creep into her mind shifting her mood.

“What happened to Rudra? Why did he try to kill me?”

That’s a big story and though I don’t want her to learn all of it now, she doesn't relent and I tell her.

“Seems this all started with the real Khushi Thakur’s death.” I begin.

“What?” she gasps. “You mean.. Khushi is?”

“Dead. He didn’t kill her though. It was an accident and she fell from the stairs in their US Penthouse. That’s the same story he told you about how you lost your memories, didn’t he?”

Jhanvi shakes her head passively.

“But the truth is, she didn’t survive the fall. Khushi died on the spot and Rudra was afraid that this would end up his future. So, he committed another crime by dumping her body in the river and lying to everyone that she’d gone away for some time.”

I tell Jhanvi the rest of the bit too. Like how he found Jhanvi in Scotland after that accident and then since she had no memories, he used her as Khushi Thakur and took her along, away from me.

Jhanvi bursts into tears by the time I finish.
