“And now he went rogue when Akash found all this evidence against him. So, to hurt me, he tried to kill you by failing your car brakes.”

I hush her down, scooping Jhanvi in my embrace.

“It’s okay, Jaan. It’s over now. He is exposed and will be punished by law.”

“I pity his father and that innocent woman, Khushi, who lost her life accidently.” She whimpers.

“I know.”

I snuggle her closer and this time she wraps her arms around my back, holding me tight. That’s it. Finally, the dark clouds are passing and I know this is the beginning of a new phase in our lives. I’ve got Jhanvi back and I wouldn’t let anything and anyone come between us again. She’s mine to love. Mine to protect.

CHAPTER 35

Aarav

I bring Jhanvi home the next morning as the doctors do a few more scans of her brain to ensure all is well, before discharging her from the hospital. I too didn’t want to take more risks so I agreed.

And since then, everyone from Daadi, Mohit and Sophia to Jaya and Aman have come home to see her. Though I ensure Jhanvi doesn't take more stress in attending them all, she is still so happy to spend time with them that it’s hard to measure her joy. For the first time since we met again, I am seeing her enjoying with the family to this extent, giving me a glimpse of the old Jhanvi. Maybe knowing Rudra is no longer around to bother us, she feels at ease to continue the rest of our journey together.

“Aarav, I think you both need a long vacation.”

Daadi is right to suggest that. In fact, I too had it in mind.

“What’s the hurry, Daadi?” Jhanvi responds. “I’m yet to get the handover from Aarav on Sikand Charity Trust which needs my attention. Plus, Aarav too seems busy with his Company as he has wasted a lot of his time chasing me. We’ll tackle our professional stuff first and then plan a nice one-two week vacation.”

She turns to me as if wanting my affirmation on her plans and I nod in agreement.

“Whatever you say, Jaan.”

Whilst everyone else continues the discussion, Jhanvi’s eyes hold mine. We are sitting on opposite couches and though not too far, I still miss her touch. Her gaze drops to my mouth when I blow a kiss in her direction. Concealing her rising blush with a smile, Jhanvi refocuses on the family.

Post dinner, Aarvi doses off in my arms and I quickly go back upstairs to put her on the bed. Since Jhanvi needs good rest, we decide to put Aarvi in her separate room tonight, just the one adjacent to our bedroom and which is only separated by a connecting door. Considering the energy Aarvi has put into playing with Amaya today, she is not going to wake up until morning.

I put her on the bed, give her forehead a gentle peck and return to the living room where everyone is ready to leave. Jhanvi touches Daadi’s feet and gives her a tight hug.

“We’ll come to see you in Raichand Mansion this weekend. I can’t wait to have the kheer you used to make for us.”

I am again stunned by Jhanvi’s words.

“How do you know about the Kheer?”

She sighs at my question.

“Jaya told me the other day.”

I turn to Jaya who waves at us with Aman and then they both get into the car. Since Amaya is also fast asleep, they couldn’t wait longer than this. We wave back at them and watch their car leave the mansion.

Mohit kisses Jhanvi’s cheek.

“Take good care of yourself.”

My brow rises at his sweet gesture. I know they have been friends since childhood but Jhanvi accepting that kind of motion from him is new. Looks like my wife is finally getting back to her old self.

“I’ll be fine, Mohit. You worry about Sophia and please take her to the doctor tomorrow,” Jhanvi smiles.

Mohit blushes hard at her remark and then scratches his head.

“Yeah. Hope we soon have some good news for everyone,” he grins.
