There was so much truth in those few simple words she almost stunned herself. Vic irritated and baffled her, but he never made her sad. In fact, he made her feel wonderful—even when he was aggravating her. Rising to her tiptoes, she kissed his chin, then gave him a quick kiss on the lips.

“Fruit and cheese sound fantastic.”

Aweek later, Vic was going over some depositions when there was a knock at his door. He looked up to find Justin standing there.

“What are you doing here?”

“I thought you might be dead…but I figured that would have made the news. Not every day a first-class attorney got killed in DC, so I decided to come by and check up on you.”

Vic leaned back in his chair and studied his best friend as he walked forward.

“Sorry. I’ve been preoccupied.”

Justin chuckled. “Yeah, I know by whom, but check your voicemail every now and then.”

“No complaints other than that?”

Justin shook his head. “Nope. I like that you finally took the plunge.”

“But…”

“I have a bad feeling about something, and I wasn’t sure if my thinking was off or not.”

“Okay. What?”

Justin settled in one of the two chairs in front of his desk. “We’ve had an incident or two at the club.”

“Why didn’t you call?”

Justin rolled his eyes. “Dude, I just said you should check your voicemail, and I wanted to make sure they weren’t anything big before I got pushy about it. But, someone has tried to get into our security systems more than once in the last week.”

“And you didn’t think to contact me earlier?”

“I just said…Lord, youaredense these days. I just told you. Plus, I didn’t know if it was just a hacker messing around or someone really after us. Analysis has told me we have a lot to worry about.”

Irritation slinked down his back. Both of them knew Justin was better at technology than Vic was. Justin played the slow Southerner to the hilt, and usually, Vic didn’t mind. He didn’t have the patience for it today, not when they had security issues.

“What?”

“Looks like they were looking at us personally.Youspecifically.”

Vic sighed. He knew his anonymity for the last few years wouldn’t last. As the silent partner, most people who knew about his club ownership were members. Most wouldn’t screw with him or Justin because they’d kick their ass out of the club.

“Damn.”

“Yeah, but I thought you should know. Keep an eye on everything. You might want to change passwords.”

He nodded and watched Justin’s expression change. Vic knew what was coming next.

“So, I’m guessing you’ll be bringing Miss Addison by the club sometime?”

“No.”

Justin laughed, causing Vic to ground his teeth.

“I knew you were going to keep her all to yourself. I guess I’m going to have to dust off my tux.”
