“It’s not… that simple.”

Miles lifts an eyebrow, then looks between Joel and me.

“What don’t I know?”

I chuckle at that. “Well, I think you know how close I am to Aaron.”

“Uh, yeah…”

“Well, Davey didn’t. And ourclosenessdidn’t go over well with him. He’s been pushing me away—and been insanely jealous of Aaron and you guys, too—ever since.”

“Jealousy doesn’t make what he’s doing okay,” Joel says softly.

“I know that, but it’s gotta be hard to see me be so close with another guy. Even though Aaron and I don’t think there’s anything there, not anymore. Unlike the rest of you,” I say pointedly.

Miles glances at Joel in confusion.

“She found out we allshipthem.”

Miles’s brow furrows.

“Ship? What the hell does that mean?”

“Like when you want a couple from a TV show to get together.” Joel grabs a chip from a nearby bag and I squeeze my hands together like a toddler. He rolls his eyes and hands me the bag.

I grab a handful and start chomping.Sorry, not sorry. I need comfort food.

Miles’s voice draws me from my sour cream and onion daze. “Ah, like Jon Snow and Ygritte?”

I stifle a laugh. “You do know how that ends, right?”

“Yeah, but they’re together in real life.”

“I think that’s the only piece of celebrity information you’ve ever known,” I say.

“What can I say? She’s hot,” Miles says with a shrug.

On brand.

I shake my head. “Anyway, apparently, you all are secretly rooting for Aaron and me to be together, which is… annoying.”

“Well, like Joel said, that’s no excuse for him to be an asshole.” He huffs out a sigh. “I seriously don’t get why you put up with this shit. You deserve better.”

I frown at that, even though I probably shouldn’t. It pisses me off hearing their opinions, but I also know it’s because they care.

“So Davey is being an ass. What about A?” Miles asks. “Have you guys talked about it? How does Marisol feel?”

Damn it.

“About the same as Davey. But Aaron—” I stop short when my phone goes off. “Speak of the devil.”

Ace: Marisol and I broke up :(

“Oh, shit.”

“What’s wrong?” Joel asks.

But I don’t answer, I call Aaron.
