“You ready to go?”Rian pops his head into my office quickly. I almost jump out of my skin.

“Jesus!” My hand shoots to my chest. “Give a girl a little warning. How are you so quiet?”

“It’s an art, baby. You ready?” He moves to stand by the chair in front of my desk.

“Yeah, but I’m going shopping with Tara, remember?” I ask as I shut down my computer.

“Of course I remember. Can’t your men want to walk you to your car?” he jokes, trying to sound offended.

I give him a half eye roll, half smirk. “Let’s go.”

Zep and Thiago are waiting at the elevator already. We all head down to the parking garage together. As soon as the elevator doors open, I see glass scattered everywhere. It seems to be centered around my car. Glass crunches under my heels as I walk around the driver’s side of my car.

My mouth falls open. “What the hell?!” My windshield and driver’s side windows are smashed to pieces. Anger and confusion consumes me as I try to figure out how this happened. Rian instinctively moves his body in front of mine as Zep and Thiago search the garage, in case the person is still here.

Zep makes his way back to where we are standing. “The fucker isn’t here,” he growls. I can see the vein in his forehead that pops out when he is angry. Rage is basically steaming off of his body at this point. “Fuck!” he yells, throwing his fist into the concrete wall. No doubt that’s going to hurt later.

Well, guess I’m going to have to call Tara and ask for a raincheck.

Twelve

I’m still lost in my thoughts about who would smash my car window in. It’s a pretty ballsy move to do that in the underground garage of our building, while we were all inside upstairs. I look inside the car—nothing seems to be missing. It doesn’t even look like anyone rummaged through my items. The inside is the same way it was when I came into work.

Part of me feels like this seems like more of a message than a theft. Why wouldn’t you take something if you’re going to go through the effort of breaking the window? The guys are looking at the camera feed right now.

“Damn it! Motherfucker!” Rian shouts.

“What?” Thiago snaps curtly.

“Whoever did this erased the feed and had it taped over.”

“Are you sure? Our security is supposed to be impenetrable! You aren’t able to go back through the data to uncover it?” I ask curiously.Hmm. Who has big enough balls and even has the skills to get past our security on the feed?

“It’s supposed to be,” Rian mumbles. “I’ll try, but I’ll either need to go back inside to do it or do it on the office computer at home.”

“Alright, let’s just call a tow truck to come grab my car and we can look into it at home,” I say in an exhausted voice. All I wanted was to spend time with Tara and have a girls day, but looks like I’ll be trying to solve this instead. We all pile into Rian’s G-wagon, taking off back home.

Tension fills the air on the drive. We’re all on edge and I can tell the wheels are turning in their pretty little heads, just like mine are. I don’t think any of us say a word the entire ride home.

“Talk to me. What are you guys thinking?” I ask, as we head into the house.

“Who would do that?” I hear Thiago say at the same time Rian says, “How did they get into our video feed?”

I nod, thinking about what Thiago and Rian are asking. I shift my attention to Zep who is noticeably silent. “What do you think?”

His brows furrow. He inhales sharply, rubbing his hand down his face. Grunting, he says, “This isn’t random, I know that for sure. No one would cover the feed and leave your stuff in the car like that if it was.”

All I can do is nod. “We need to look into who has access to the garage. We also need to check the feed from the entire day, maybe even the week to see if anything seems unusual or if anyone was lurking around. I highly doubt they left any evidence, but they might have slipped up,” I say, without a hint of hesitation. If I get in my head about this, then I will get lost in it, so I can’t let it get to me.

It’s been a long day and I just need some time alone to deal with my emotions. I take a deep breath and let the guys know I’m going to go shower. They let me go without any argument. I can tell they’re a bit shaken up by this all, even if they won’t admit it.

When I finish getting dressedfrom the shower, I make my way downstairs. The smell of bacon hits my nose first.Mmmm. Breakfast for dinner, my favorite.I step into the kitchen to see Zep flipping pancakes as Thiago stands next to him eating a strip of bacon. Rian is sitting at the counter, nose deep in his laptop.

Walking up to Thiago, I stand in front of him giving him puppy dog eyes, opening my mouth to beg him for bacon. “Dang baby, at least wait until after we eat to start opening that mouth real wide,” he teasingly says, as he throws a wink at me.
