Sasha smiled.

“Well, that’s what I wanted to talk to you about. Now, that the dreaded confrontation is over I have felt free and happy working here and wanted to know if you mind if I stayed?”

If he could have he would have jumped up and down like a kid who had gotten his favorite toy on Christmas.

“Would I mind if you stayed? I was trying to find out what I could do to get you to stay. You are amazing with the knowledge you bring to the layout of the garage and Claudia’s boutique. You are patient and manage the orders and quality inspection like no other. I know you think I was doing you a favor, but I assure you, you were doing one for me as well. I’m sure I speak for Claudia when I say we would be sore to lose you.”

“I’m glad you feel that way. “

“You don’t know how good this news is.””

“Who were you interviewing to replace me?”

“Maybe that was the problem I couldn’t interview because I didn’t know anyone who applied who had extensive fashion or retail experience. I know that Claudia and Jillian are getting slammed with business as a result of our shows and they were going to need help too. “

“Well, I’m not one to tell you how to run your business,” Sasha started. Austin laughed.

“Yes, you are!” he replied back. Sasha had the grace to look a bit humbled.

“Well, I’m just saying you need a person for all of our sakes.”

“I know and I’m looking but so far only highschoolers have come by or single moms who are looking for temporary cash.”

“Well, my boy you better look sooner rather than later to find yourself someone who is going to handle the retail. I’ve seen our numbers and when the winter comes we will be beyond swamped if we don’t have a solution. You would think with all that time you spend with Claudia you two could come up with an answer. You do talk, don’t you? I mean you don’t just hang out in parks all day do you?” Sasha joked.

Austin smiled and he wished it was that easy.

“Let’s just say I don’t think she has a very high opinion f me so it not going the way I’d like but I’ve decided to see it to the end.”

Sasha got up and placed her hand on his shoulder.

“I’m sorry Austin. I know you really care for her.”

Clearing his throat he placed his hand on Sasha’s and then brought it to his mouth for a kiss of comfort.

“You brought up the retail spot. I assume that something must have happened or maybe you saw someone?”

“I did interview a nice girl,” Sash said. “She’s new to town. She has experience on paper, but her references won’t confirm her and oddly enough I got a call from her ex-husband if you ask her and her husband if he was to be believed that she wasn’t fit to take a job. However, my gut says she is the one, “Sasha ended.

Austin felt like he knew who this was and knew this is what happened when you lived in a small town.

“What’s her name?”

“It’s Naomi Wells,” Sasha said. As soon as the name was out of her mouth Austin started to shake his head no. “Now here me out before you say no. She has no family and has just put money down on a house making it seem like she’s going to be here at least for the next 15 years. We haven’t gotten a better resume and when I asked her questions she had calm logical answers.”

“She is also someone that hurt Claudia. I don’t want her workplace to be a place of pain and anxiety remembered. “Austin said shaking his head.

Sasha rapped her knuckles on the desk in front of him.

“I think you should ask Claudia. If the reason is you are worried about her then let her weigh in on it.” Sasha said and then left the room.

Austin watched her leave. He would put more ads in the paper and maybe a couple on the border of the town. Claudia came to work because she enjoyed creating. Austin didn’t want to ruin her getaway with a thorn from her past.

Time was flying pastmuch quicker than Naomi had thought especially with Corey blocking every job she tried to get and her savings running low. Every day her mother called wondering if she was ready to see reason yet.

Instead, Naomi had taken to visiting Tamara and sitting with the dogs. Corey had been true to his statement, and he was pulling all of his strings so no one would hire her. She thought buying a house would still the lie that he had been circulating that she was a temporary resident but seems even that would come back to bite her in her financial wellbeing.
