“It sounds interesting.”

“I’m not sure yet if it’s a good fit. But I like my boss and co-workers, and I’m grateful Beatrice recommended me for the job.”

“That’s the woman who died?”

“Yeah. Beatrice not only helped me get the job, but I also found out recently she’s left me her estate on Crete.”

“The one you stayed at?”

She nodded, taking a sip of her drink. “She gave me the farmhouse and the surrounding ten acres.”

“That’s quite a bit of land.”

“She also left me most of her library.”

“That’s incredible. Congratulations.” He lifted his glass in a toast.

Now was the time to find out what Leo’s opinion was about what to do with the property. If Leo recommended a building project, that would ease tension between her father and Leo. Then again, it would become an obstacle between her and Leo because she was adamant about not developing it. “My father told me I should develop it. What do you think?” She kept a close eye on him, looking for any hesitation.

Leo lifted a shoulder in a half shrug, taking anothercoxinhafrom the platter. “It’s your property. You get to decide what’s best for you, and for the professor’s memory, if it’s important to you.”

This was a completely different reaction to her father’s, and it supported all her instincts not to develop it.

“Thanks, I’ll do that.” The air around them settled. It was easy being with Leo. He was interested in her, but whatever he had to share was a concern for him, and if it had something to do with her father, it meant it would also affect her.

Juliana returned with a tray loaded with a large bowl with a stew and several smaller bowls containing rice and peeled orange slices. She smiled at Cassie. “Do you like it?”

“I’ve loved everything so far.”

“Wonderful. Take your time. The dancing starts soon.” Juliana patted Leo’s shoulder and left.

The last time they danced together, they were both naked under the moonlight. She would never forget the sensation of being held in Leo’s arms, his warm skin against hers. They ate together in companionable silence for a while, but she was distracted by Leo taking a few glances up at her. Was he thinking about that night too?

“What?” she asked.

“Nothing. I’m glad you’re here with me. I always come alone.”

“I don’t believe that.”

“It’s true. This place is like a second home to me. I’ve never brought a date here.”

The sincerity in his voice meant she was special to him. They still had a lot to talk about, but her heart burst with happiness. She took one last bite and set her fork down. “That’s it. I’m moving to Brazil. If the food is this good, I’m getting on the next plane.”

Leo’s eyes gleamed in the dim light. “I can arrange it.”

“I was kidding.”

“I’m not. I’d love to take you there one day.”

Despite the dim lighting, she could see how he studied her. His intense gaze made everything they shared that one night come rushing back.

A singer joined the combo, and a few couples were already dancing. She couldn’t understand the words, but the rhythm was sensual. She wanted to touch him and to have him hold her close, but in order to do that, she would have to get out of her comfort zone.

On impulse, she reached for his hand. “Let’s dance.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah, I want to.” Never taking her eyes off his, she stood, and he got to his feet.
