Leo held her close, humming the melody. His strong arms felt as good as she remembered.

“Do you know this song?”

“Of course.”

“What’s she saying?”

Leo moved close to her ear. “She’s saying when it’s just the two of them in the moonlight, it feels more like a dream.” He pulled away a bit and looked into her eyes. “Dancing with you that night on the boat was like a dream. I never wanted to let you go,” he said in a deep voice.

She could easily get lured right back into his bed, but first she needed to be honest with him.

“And yet you did let me go.”

Leo held her gaze with an unwavering focus. “I’ll never make that mistake again.”

His face was so close to hers she could kiss him. She wanted to.

“I need to explain what happened between your father and me.” Leo’s voice was tense.

Another couple bumped into them as they danced. The patio had become more crowded with both diners and couples dancing. It might be better to go somewhere more private to continue their conversation.

“Okay. Let’s go back to my flat.”

Leo parked near her flat and turned off the engine.

She climbed out of his car and walked down the street with him.

“Wait a minute. I almost forgot.” He hurried back to his car and returned with a large paper bag. “Leftovers.”

“Thanks. I’ll be eating them all week.”

Cassie unlocked the door, and he stepped in behind her. After closing the door, a heavy silence surrounded them. She went to the kitchen and put the bag on the counter. “Would you like some tea?” She filled the kettle with water.

Leo stood in the doorway with his hands in his pockets, his eyes following her every move while she put the leftovers in the refrigerator.

A rope of anxiety tightened in her stomach about what he planned to tell her. How bad could it be?
