We all turn toward Walker as he makes his way through the sea of bodies. His gaze lands on me and his pupils dilate, completely eclipsing his iris. He doesn’t speak, doesn’t breathe for a few moments. Just as I’m about to step forward and shake him, his eyes return to normal, and he shakes his head. “Shit.”

“What is it?”

He whirls on Rainey. “Call Paloma. Now.”

“What is going on?” I demand, and he turns back to me.

“We need to get to Bronywyn. I know where she’s going, and something dark is headed her way.”

“Have you not been paying attention?” Rainey asks, strolling up to join us. “Sheisdark.”

“Not entirely. But something is coming. I couldn’t see what, but I know it’s going to be life-altering. She’s in trouble.”

“I’ll call Paloma now.”

The cleaners enter the space, and I rush over. “You have complete control over this scene. No one leaves until Captain Reynolds gives the all clear.”

“Yes, sir. When will she be here?”

“She’s on her way now,” Rainey interjects.

Fearghas jogs over. “What’s going on?”

“Bronywyn needs us.”

His green gaze shifts over all of us. “Then let’s go.”

Rainey shakes her head. “I need you here. If the humans remember any of this they’re in danger. Can you take care of it? We can use the herbs that we used to, but we all know those don’t work a hundred percent of the time.”

He looks like he may argue for a brief moment, before nodding. “Aye, aye, detective. But you call if you get into a bind.”

“Will do.”

“We need to go, now,” Walker says, as he heads toward the exit.

“You know where she is?” Terror twists in my gut like a sharp blade.

“I do. I just hope we’re not too late.”
