Chapter twenty-one

‘No Me Importa’ In This Moment

JAZ MONROE

The party is in full swing by the time I step outside. The night is cool with the crescent moon shining brightly in the clear sky. My short ashy hair tickles my jaw as it dances in the slight breeze. Before taking the five steps down to the gravel at the front of the building, I take in my surroundings, searching for familiar faces as I wait for Zatrina to join me. I told her I'd wait for her here so she wouldn't have to roam the crowd looking for me. No one aside from a few people know who she is, but everyone else no doubt heard secondhand stories of the Witch-wolf.

"Alpha Jaz?" a girl asked from behind me.

Spinning, I see the Witch who was with us in the cell, "Yes... Sara?"

I'm not sure what she wants, we don't have a friendship at all. That doesn't mean she can't seek me out, but I've always gotten a weird vibe from her. She's usually sugary sweet whenever anyone is around, not that I've ever been alone with her before, but for some reason I feel like her sweetness is laced with cyanide. I blow the bad vibes off though because Roman and his brothers seem to trust her, and they've known her longer.

She reaches out and touches my arm in a motherly way.Weirdo, "I apologize for sneaking up on you, I didn't think I could startle a warrior."

Is that her attempt at a dig?

I eye her, trying to get a read on her, but I can't get past the whole Wednesday Addams look she's got going for her.

She's wearing an outfit that's reminiscent of an early nineteen hundreds grade school uniform. Its charcoal black pulled up close to her neck with a white collar hanging over the neckline. There's a small black belt around her waist with the hem of her dress reaching just below her knees, and I kid you fucking not, she's wearing white stockings with shiny black shoes.

Knox ought to get a look at her because this girl iscreeptastic. The only difference between her and the homicidal movie character is her hair. It's boldly cut at her jaw with blunt V bangs, it makes her pale porcelain like face pop eerily.

I'm doing my best not to quote a line from that movie right now, "You didn't startle me. What can I do for you?"

"Nothing, I just saw you standing here all alone, and I just wanted to come say hello."

I give a noncommittal sound and look down at my watch. It's been ten minutes since Zatrina was supposed to be here.

"I'm fine, Sara, thank you. I'm just going to go check on my sister."

I move around the small girl, but she steps in front of me, "Roman sent me to get you, he says everyone is waiting for you to make an appearance."

I can feel my wolf growling at Sara's close proximity to us, and I learned long ago to trust the instinct of my wolf. If she's not feeling the situation, I make damn sure to get myself out of it.

"He can wait, I need to find Zatrina."

I step around her and this time she lets me go. I'm pretty sure I hear her mutter something like an asshole, but I deal with that later.

I make my way through the halls and up the stairs but once I reach the second landing, I can hear my sister and Atticus arguing. I should turn around and leave them, especially if they're fated to be mates, but I'm nosy as fuck.

I use my wolf's power to open my hearing and lean my back against the wall.

"I don't trust you." Atticus growls.

"And I don't give a flying fuck. Now that we've established that, I'm late to meet my sister." I can hear her take a couple of steps before they get cut off with a squeak, like sneakers on a basketball court.

"You have a fucking mouth on you, you know that?” damn, Atticus' growl is a panty soaker. If I weren't mated to and completely into Roman, I'd have a lady-hard-on for the bronze haired man, "maybe I ought to fill it just to get you to shut up."

Slowly, I peak around the corner and spot the two. Atticus has my sister against the wall, his body flushed to hers while their snarling faces are a hair's breadth away from each other. Both of their eyes glow brightly, lighting up their features.

"Your dick isn't big enough, pretty boy."

Atticus growls and grinds himself to her...Annnnnd I'm out of here.

Letting go of my supernatural hearing, I make my way back down the stairs, confident that my sister can handle herself with the burly pretty boy. I don't know if they'll try and work it out between them, but I have to admit—even if they won't—they definitely have the zing. They'd be great together if they stopped fighting the pull. I'm glad Roman and I didn't bother fighting it for too long, although I have to admit, hate sex is great sex.

reaching out with our link, I let my possessive Alpha know where I'm at,Hey, sorry I'm late, I was looking for Zatrina.
