“You’re going to be my bodyguard?” I ask and he nods, but he doesn’t look that happy about it.

“As long as you hire me and my company.”

“Diamond seems like a strange place to set up a bodyguard company,” I comment.

“I like it here. We help out the local police department. They don’t really have much technical experience.”

“But you do?”

“Yeah. I served with Wesley and my friend Gavin in the military for a decade. We all have skills, and I know that we can keep you safe and find your stalker.”

I study him for a moment.

I trust him, which is a little weird because I don’t normally trust people without knowing them for a while. I wonder why this guy is different.

He’s got some kind of control over me too. For the first time in my life, I think that I want a man.

I doubt that he would be thrilled to know that. His mouth is still turned down in a frown, and I sigh.

“You’re hired then.”

“Great,” he deadpans and I kind of want to smack him.

Good. Should make the next few weeks a lot of fun, I think sarcastically as he turns to survey the cottage.

My mind instantly jumps to all of the fun that we could have together, and I shut that thought down quickly as I try to focus on what his plan for me is.

Rule

She is…not what I was expecting.

When Wesley said that the client was a model, I had pictured someone tall and rail thin. Someone flat as a board.

This girl is none of those things.

Her red hair is long and thick, hanging to the middle of her back. It looks like a flame flickering with every step that she takes and I’ve never wanted to be burned so bad in my life.

Her green eyes are intelligent and wide as she takes me in, and I wonder if she likes what she sees.

My mouth waters as I take in her curves. She has a perfect hourglass figure, and I have to curl my fingers into my palms so that I don’t try to reach for her. I want to know what she feels like. I want to mold each one of those curves and press her against me.

She’s a client,I remind myself.She’s off limits.

“Does anyone know that you’re here?” I ask her, switching into work mode.

“Just the Kings.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah, I took a private flight in and had Arlowe pick me up from the airport. We came straight here.”

“Tell me about your stalker,” I order.

I cross my arms over my chest, trying to keep from grabbing her. I don’t know why I’m having such a strong reaction to her, but it feels like my whole body got hit with a live wire the second that my eyes landed on her. It’s like I’m alive for the first time in my life. She was my first breath of air.

“They’ve been sending me letters for a while now,” she says as she starts to dig around in a suitcase. “I didn’t take it seriously at first, so I don’t have the first few letters, but I kept most of them.”
