Rostam doesn’t listen, he doesn’t accept that answer. Instead, he takes a step toward Osip. It’s the wrong move to make in this environment. Arseny is closest. He slips between them, placing his hand in the center of Rostam’s chest.

“I think you need to leave now,” Arseny warns.

Rostam shakes his head. “Fuck you, fuck all of you. This deal will not work until you give me access to Southern California,” he growls.

“We can set up a meet tomorrow before everyone goes home,” Osip offers calmly.

Rostam looks from side to side, then shakes his head once. “I will not wait. I will not be shoved to the side. I am a leader and I deserve respect.”

I almost laugh in his face. He doesn’t deserve a fucking thing.Nothing. In fact, he’s lucky that he’s even fucking breathing at this point. If it were up to me, he would be fucking dead. The only person that is keeping him alive is Osip at this point.

“You are on thin ice,” Osip says, his voice deep and his tone even.

Rostam does something with his hands, I can’t quite tell from where I’m standing, but it doesn’t matter, because Arseny already has his gun out and has shot him in the stomach. Rostam falls with a gasp.

Thankfully, everyone who is here at the wedding is Bratva, and not a single person bats an eyelash at the sound of the gun going off. Except for two women, who rush over and fall over Rostam’s body. Screaming and wailing.

“Fuck,” Osip barks. He turns to Kazimir. “Get him away from me. He just fucked me. Fucked all of us up here.”

Kazimir’s face starts to turn red. He is not okay with being yelled at, especially in a public setting. Even if there are only Bratva and two wailing Persian women in the room. It doesn’t matter, Osip raised his voice to Kazimir. And while technically they are in the same position of power, Kazimir has a bit more seniority and it is disrespectful.

Fuck.

The last thing that we need is a war between our own men.

Arseny is dragged away, though with little effort. I don’t know who the fuck was in the wrong here or the right, but a man pulls a gun out near me and I’m shooting him. So, I can understand where Arseny is coming from.

I also know how high tensions have been with Rostam, a situation that I didn’t like being in to begin with, but he comes with his own fucking group of men, so that’s something that is going to be a goddamn headache to deal with. So, I can understand where Osip is coming from as well.

Glancing down at Rostam, I can’t feel anything but relief that he’s gone, maybe even a bit of elation. A few men from the cleanup crew drag his ass away, another few drag the women away. I don’t know where they’ll take them, and I don’t give a shit.

A few moments later, Isabel is at my side. Placing my hand against her belly, I look down at her.

“He’s gone,” she breathes as she lifts her head up, her eyes finding mine.

“He’s gone,” I agree.

She nods her head, pressing her lips together and rolling them a few times before she turns to me fully. Isabel lifts her arms, wrapping them around the back of my neck as she releases her lips from their tight press against one another.

“Am I a terrible person to feel relief?”

Shaking my head once, I dip my chin, gripping her hips as I do, and touch my mouth to hers. “You aren’t, and I’m fucking pissed it wasn’t me who took him out.”

Sliding my tongue along her bottom lip, I taste her, then slowly break the kiss. “I love you, luchik. You’ve given me something that I never thought possible.”

“What’s that?” she asks on an exhale.

“Life. A reason to live. A reason to wake up, to be a better man than I was the day before. You have given me everything and I didn’t know I needed it, but I truly fucking did.”

“You saved me,” she says. “You saved me from a fate worse than death. You saved me from hell, but beyond that, you didn’t just save me. You breathed a whole new existence into me. You’ve given me my life back, my family. Everything. You’ve slain dragons for me, Ruslan.”

“And I will slay dragons again and again until there is nothing left to slay.”
