“Well?” Zed raised an eyebrow at me.

“Apparently, I smell like the only meal you ever want to have again,” I said, with a scowl.

Zed smirked. “And?”

“And I’m the most gorgeous woman you’ve ever seen.”

“Yup. And?”

“Damn you,” I grumbled at him. “And you want to fuck me hard for the rest of your life.”

He nodded. “Mmhm.”

I sighed. “Asshole.”

He squeezed my thigh in response again.

I hated how much I liked it.

“So where all have you traveled to?” Zed asked me, apparently deciding to ignore the fact that we were both so damned horny that I was having a hard time remaining in my seat and staring out the window.

“Where haven’t I been is a better answer,” I said, staring out the window as if my life depended on it.

Considering Zed would probably crash the car if I jumped him in that moment, maybe my life did depend on it.

“Alright, name your favorite place, then,” he said.

My mind went blank.

“Nothing?” he checked.

“I’m thinking about it,” I lied.

Honestly, everything had kind of blurred together over the past few years. It was nice, but… I was tired.

And lost, as ironic as it was.

“Jackson, Mississipi,” I finally admitted. “It’s not really my favorite place, but it’s the closest thing I have to one I’d say.”

“Where you grew up?” he checked.

“No. I’ll never go back to where I grew up,” I told him, almost absentmindedly. “Jackson is where my college is—was. I graduated with an associates’ a few years ago. Most of the degree was online, but I was in school for a semester and still pay for a storage unit there.”

Zed studied me, about as well as he could while also driving mostly-safely. “What’s special about Jackson?”

“I don’t know.” I shrugged. “Guess it was the first place that felt a little like home.”

I’d already said too much, and needed to change the subject. “What’s your favorite thing to cook?”

“Eh, depends on my mood. And who I’m cooking for, on top of it.”

“So, what would you cook for me?”

“You’re a girl who likes some variety, right?” he checked.

“Not much with food.”

“Right. Gross shit makes you sick.”
