My head spun and I glared at him. “What the fuck!”
“Lacey, there is no need for that kind of language, regardless of who you are.”
“But... coming here to have sex.”
“As I’ve said. During the bind, you and Carter, as your protector, are in a weakened position and you will remain that way until you wake from the bind. Then and only then, will you both be more powerful than ever.”
“We willbothbe more powerful?”
“Yes, both. as I mentioned you copy Carter’s magic, and he copies one of yours in exchange. That is how your magic strengthens and your chosen knight’s does too.”
“And you picked Carter on the strength of his magic?” I asked.
“Yes, Carter, he has two, he is an elemental and he can vanish.”
“He can make himself invisible?” I asked, then remembered what Carter had done to the demon.
“No, that’s Ryan,” Clay said and my head twisted to him.
“Carter can vanish souls to the Upperworld,” he clarified and hesitated. “Or the Lowerworld, as you found out with the demon.”
I nodded. “And are you saying this needs to be done now?”
“I’m ready,” Carter said.
I scowled. “If I’m going to be bound to youforever,” I said, emphasising the last word. “I want to see my real memory first.”
“That will be arranged, but be careful what you wish for,” Clay said. A slight sigh emitted from his mouth.
I shook my head. “What do you mean?” I said and walked back to the sofa, taking a seat in case I heard something that would be too hard.
“You will see your parents,” he said.
“Oh...” I had an idea I knew what he meant because if they changed my memory to see something else. Did it mean I saw my parents in death?
Kane's hand landed on my shoulder. I wrapped my fingers around it. “Did I go to dinner with them?”
Clay rolled his lips together and shook his head. “Unfortunately, you had the argument, as you remember. You were about to leave your home to go to see Carter, just after they left, as you remember. We installed your false memory at that point.”
“I actually drugged you in your home and we created the new memory in the chamber. Afterwards I took you home and stayed with you while you slept the rest of the time and later a member of the kingdom police turned up to tell you about your parents.” He hesitated. “We identified your parents, but I wiped that memory, so if you go ahead you will see it too.”
“You drugged me?” I whispered.
Clay flicked his fingers nervously. “Not drugged so much as I gave you a magic potion.”
I blew out a breath and slowly nodded my head. Did I want to see my memory or trust what I’d been told? I would have to have a think about that.
“Let me know when you’re ready to see it and I’ll get you into the chamber.”
“Okay.” I paused. “Can I ask two questions before I go?”
“Ask anything.”
“How do I know I’m bound to someone?”
“You both feel it Lacey, you feel the pull forever,” Clay said, picking up his pen. “A permanent link.”
“That’s it?”
