Leaning in, I start to suck and kiss her neck. “Why am I waiting?” I murmur.

“Shit…” she groans, her arms slipping around my neck as she arches back a little. “I need to ask you something.”

I slip a finger inside her, groaning when I discover how wet she is. “Uh huh, what?”

“Tommy,” she breathes out, her fingers tightening against my neck. “No, stop, wait, I…” She pulls back a little, her hooded eyes finding mine in the darkness.

“What’s wrong, babe?” I ask, slowly sliding my finger out before slipping it back in.

Penny groans again, clearly distracted by what I’m doing to her. I lean in and kiss her neck again just as she blurts out. “Marry me?”

I freeze, not sure if I’ve heard her right. “What?” I ask, lifting my head.

“Will you marry me?”

My mouth curves into a slow smile as I slam my mouth against hers in a hard kiss. “Yes, I’ll fucking marry you. Are you kidding me?”

“Really?”

“Babe,” I say, pulling back, suddenly serious. “I’ve wanted to ask since day one. I just didn’t want to rush you. But yes, I have never been more serious about anything or anyone in my life. I would love to marry you, Penny Cartwright.”

Pen smiles, kissing the end of my nose. “I would love to marry you, Tommy Andrews.”

“Good, then let’s go home so I can give you your ring and then get in your pants.”

“Wait, what, you have a ring?” Pen asks as I ease her off my lap.

I laugh. “Yes, Pen, I do.” Then I sling her over my shoulder and take us both home.

Chapter Thirty-Nine

Penny

Two Months Later

It was a risk asking him to marry me, a risk that most men would’ve looked at as controlling or even weird, but not Tommy. His agreement of yes fell from his lips faster than I could’ve ever imagined, looking back at where we started and how he fought this obvious connection between the two of us. But what happened in the past doesn’t matter and it certainly doesn’t matter now as we stand under the willow tree covered in millions of tiny twinkling lights.

It isn’t a big wedding, hell, it isn’t even a wedding. It’s just us and a few friends standing here, watching us make this official. It’s exactly how we wanted it with the vineyard bathed in the quietness of dusk, the lake as the backdrop to what will be forever.

There was nothing to plan, no catering to organize, no dress to be altered or a guest list to stress over, no money to be spent or families to disappoint. It’s simple and beautiful and despite it not being very long since we met, it’s exactly where we’re supposed to be.

Today was the day we hung the sign out front, right under the Somerville name and right next to the Apple Jacks sign. P,T and Bee are officially in business and are currently being sold, tasted and enjoyed all over the Somerville property.

But that doesn’t mean we’ve left our old jobs behind. It just means we are hella fucking busy and we love it.

We have something that is ours, something our little family helped us build and something we will forever be a part of. And not a day goes by that I’m not one hundred percent certain I made the right decision by staying here.

The officiant stands in front of us, his words nearly lost on both of us as we can’t take our eyes off each other.

“Do you Penelope, take Thomas, to be your husband, tocherish in love and in friendship, in strength and in weakness, in success and in disappointment, to love him faithfully, today, tomorrow, and for as long as the two of youshall live?” the officiant asks, and I can’t seem to wipe this giddy schoolgirl grin off my face.

“I do,” I reply, my hand resting on Tommy’s cheek as he smiles back at me, his eyes shining with the slightest hint of tears.

“Do you Thomas, take Penelope, to be your wife, tocherish in love and in friendship, in strength and in weakness, in success and in disappointment, to love her faithfully, today, tomorrow, and for as long as the two of youshall live?”

“I do,” Tommy says, leaning in close, his lips nearly touching mine and it’s hard to stop the giggle that slips through. He’s so naughty, teasing me with what he knows I want. He trails his mouth across my cheek and to my ear as he whispers, “He left out the part about making you come on a daily basis, but don’t worry, that’s in there too.”

“It’s in there for you, too,” I whisper back, not giving a shit if the officiant has told us to kiss or not. I press my lips to his, feeling Tommy’s mouth curl into a smile against mine.
