“I don’t want you to think I’m trying to create a problem between you and Julian.”

The mention of Julian’s name had Kayla’s full attention. “What do you know, Connie?”

“There’s this woman. I don’t know her personally. She frequents Sapphire. I think she and Julian were associated with one another a while back. She may even be an attorney.”

“Angelina?”

“You know her?”

“She works with Julian.”

Kayla wished Angelina wasn’t in their lives. That woman gave off a bad vibe when Kayla had met her. Practically throwing herself at Julian. The only reason Kayla hadn’t lost it was because she saw that Julian wanted no part of her and her desperate attempts to get him to react.

“She’s started coming here.”

“Master M’s?”

“She’s been asking about you and Julian. She’s very intrigued about your private sessions with Master M. She seems obsessed with Julian. I just wanted you to know.”

“Julian is aware of her behavior. I’d bet Martin, I mean, Master M. is too.”

“If you’re cool with it, then no worries.”

“I appreciate the heads-up.” Kayla had a knot in her stomach. She didn’t like the thought of someone sniffing around and asking questions about her private life. “I hope your new situation works out here at the club.”

“Me too.”

“See you around.” Kayla went to leave, but when Connie called her name she paused.

“I’m happy for you and Julian.”

“Thank you.”

Kayla headed to the subway, feeling more disturbed than when she had first arrived. Maybe she should have gone into the club and discussed her restlessness with Martin. He had so much experience and knew Julian well. No. She reconsidered. The only person who could truly put her mind at ease was Julian. Once he was finished with this case, their lives would go back to normal. Was that even a word she could use to describe the two of them?

Chapter 9

Julian checked his watch as he rode the elevator up to the apartment where he and Angelina were supposed to meet a potential witness. He had hoped to take care of this business quickly and get home to Kayla. He’d been neglecting her lately. She would never admit that, but his work had taken up so much of his personal life these past few weeks. There was a reason he had stayed single for so long. It wasn’t as if he thought he had made a mistake when it came to Kayla—he couldn’t imagine his life without her—he just didn’t like being away from her so much.

Perhaps when this case was over, he could take her away for a few days. Maybe back to the bed-and-breakfast they had stayed at on New Year’s Eve. That seemed like such a long time ago. They had come so far in these past couple of months. He just needed to find a way to balance his professional life with a personal one. He’d work on doing a better job once this case was finished and he talked to Dave about reassigning Angelina to another attorney.

Julian knocked on the door at the end of the dimly lit hallway. The building was quiet. He wondered why Angelina would have agreed to meet the potential witness here. The woman was impulsive, and he found that he no longer had the patience for her. A few more days and he could rid himself of her. Dave would have to honor his request. Julian knocked again.

“Julian?” Angelina called from inside the apartment.

“Yes.”

“Come in.”

He turned the doorknob and entered what appeared to be a vacant space. He glanced around, noting Angelina’s bag in the corner by a slightly ajar door.

“Angelina?”

“I’m back here.”

“What are you doing...” Julian stopped once he pushed the door open. “What the hell is this?”

Angelina dangled from the ceiling, restrained and naked. She was in perfect submissive form, waiting for her Dominant.Shit!
