Rissa

“I’ve never asked anything of you two, but I’m asking now. Please, help me. Please help Dean,” I say calmly to my parents.

I don't know how to feel right now. I don't know what to say or what to do, and all the noise in my head is overbearing. I just know I must help Dean. Bailey’s dad was able to get all the guys out of jail except Dean since he was the one who actually committed the assault.

“He almost killed his own father. Why the hell should we bail him out?” my dad asks, looking confused.

“Because he was protecting me. Because his dad hit me, and he was only trying to look out for me. Because I asked you to,” I tell them again calmly. My mom just stares back at me, not knowing what to say, but I don’t care about her right now. I know my dad has connections, a lot of them, and in very high places.

“Fine, I’ll make a call, but I don’t want you seeing this boy again,” he stipulates.

“You don’t get to make that call. I love him. No matter what happens, I will be with Dean,” I say flatly. My dad gives me a hard stare but finally lets out a breath.

“I’ve never understood you, Clarissa. You never let us know what is going on in your head. You shut us out and show no emotions. You’ve never told us, your parents, you love us. Yet you’re willing to risk everything for this boy? This trash?” my father asks, frustrated.

“He is not trash. If you don’t want to help me, that’s fine. I’ll figure something else out,” I tell them both, turning to walk away.

“Wait,” my mother’s voice says softly. I stop, but I don’t turn around to look at them.

“You really love him?” she asks.

“Yes,” I say simply.

“Michael, she's right. Clarissa has never asked us for anything. This boy was protecting her. The least we can do is get him out,” she pleads with my dad. I stay rooted to the spot, waiting for my dad’s answer. I hear a sigh, followed by my father’s resigned voice.

“Fine, I’ll make a call. He should be released later tonight,” he tells me. I turn and look at both my parents. Most kids would probably run into their arms and thank them, followed by ‘I love yous’ and all those other normal family traits right about now. Instead, I walk over, close to them both, trying my hardest to meet their eyes. When I make it over to them, I slowly wrap my arms around them. I don't need this moment, but I have a feeling they do. I hear my mom sniff, and my dad kisses the top of my head before I pull back and head out of the house and to my car. I’ll wait outside of that jail all night if I have to, but I want to be there the moment Dean is released.

Luckily, it doesn’t take all night for him to be released. Only about six hours, but when he walks out of that place, I take off running straight to him. His brothers wait behind me, letting us have this moment.

“I was scared,” I tell him honestly.

“I know, baby. I’d say it won’t happen again, but I’d serve the rest of my life in that place to protect you,” he tells me, and I close my eyes, soaking up the feel of being in his arms.

“Please, never leave me again,” I plead. I know I’m begging, but I don't care right now.

“I will never leave you willingly, Rissa. Not for everything this world has to give. You are mine and will always be mine,” he tells me. I nod, knowing that’s good enough for me.

“The charges were dropped… for all of us,” Joey tells Dean coming up behind him.

“Thanks, guys. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have all of you at my back,” he tells them.

I couldn’t be happier with the man I chose or the brothers he holds so close to his heart. They’ve made their own little family, and I’m more than honored to be a part of it.
