Epilogue Two

“Hey brother, you worked the late shift last night. How are you feeling today? Brody asks me, hopping off his bike that’s parked right next to mine.
“Tired as shit, but that’s nothing new,” I mumble, looking around for my brother Joey. I guess he and Lexi are skipping out today since I don’t see his bike.
“Damn, man, we’re falling like flies. Now Joey is gone chasing after some girl, too,” Parker says from my other side. Damn, this is hitting him hard. He’s usually the funny upbeat one of the group.
“Awww, don’t say shit like that, brother. None of us would back out on that promise. We are all getting out of here. With or without any chicks hanging off us,” Canaan says from behind us.
We keep walking into the school as I think about everything that’s happened. Is Canaan right? Will our brothers still want to get out of here after meeting their soulmates? I would like to think so, but you never know, honestly.
“Lexi doesn’t have a great home life. I don’t think it would take much to talk her into leaving. Joey would rather die than stay here, too,” I tell them, slamming my locker door shut. I check my watch before looking up and down the hallways for Ricki. She’s always late like we all are, but she’s usually here by now. I should probably check the back of the gym. She has a tendency to go back there and smoke, then forget she actually has to go to class. I take a deep breath, ready to head that way and check on her, but I stop in my tracks when I see Griffin running down the halls toward us.
“What the fuck is it? What’s wrong?” I ask him. We’ve known each other so long and have seen that look on each other’s faces too many times to not know what that means. Someone’s in trouble, deep trouble.
“Landon, It’s Ricki. She’s in the hospital. It doesn’t look good this time, man.” Before Griffin can finish, I’m taking off, back out of the school, and straight to my bike. I hop on and peel out of the parking lot, heading toward the hospital. Ricki better pull through because, one way another, I swear to fuck I’m going to jail for murder tonight.
