Cam was really not sure what he was going to do about this whole hot mess he was trying to negotiate if this was Jonathan's version of sending their best.

His best what?

Saboteur?

Seriously the best thing that could happen to Cam is if Jonathan would marry someone who lived in California and move there. Forever.

"What was that all about?"

Vivian stood next to him, a weird look on her face.

Cam shook his head and pointed at the taillights which were completely ignoring the stop sign.

"That?” He tried not to growl. “That's my intern. When Jonathan said he had money to hire people, apparently, he decided to keep the money and send me some kid who thinks he's here to save the world and doesn't even know who Raymond Havester is.”

With a huff that would make his granddad proud, he turned and stalked back inside, looking forward to getting back into his groove.

Cam had finally gotten back to work on his bowl. It took a while to refocus on his craft what with the idiocy he had just witnessed. But he was thankful to be at it again. Just as he started turning the bowl, the lights over his door flashed.

He waited for them to flash a second interval, letting him know it was someone he knew, his parents, the guys, Tyler, or Vivian ringing his bell.

When it didn't, he grabbed his phone and checked his Ring camera to see a young woman standing at the door. Under her arm, a portfolio swung slightly as she bounced on her toes.

A strong urge to turn the lights out and hide under a table pushed through him. But at least she waited at the door, so he figured he’d give her a shot since he gave what’s-his-name one.

He set everything aside, again, annoyed now to be almost finding his groove only to have to stop—again.

At the door, he took a deep breath. The hot Jonathan-made mess and the guy who just left were not her fault. He’d be polite. He’d run through the steps, then he’d see her on her way.

Smooth as silk finish.

“Mr. Ross?”

Oh man, was he suddenly that old?

“Cam. Just Cam.”

“Hi! I’m Emiko! Emiko Miro! But, um, you can call me Emi. My friends call me Emi. Man, I’m nervous. How am I doing? Really blowing it, right? Geez. Stop, Emi, stop talking.”

Cam grinned and opened the door wider. At least he was going to like this one.

“Come on in, Emi. And believe it or not, that was a far superior introduction than the last guy.”

“Oh wow, he must have stunk.”

Cam laughed and led her back to the conference room, watching her eyes bulge out at the workshop as they cut through. A few times her hand slipped out as if to touch something, and then she’d snatch it back.

They got to the conference room, and he motioned her through the door. He stood back and watched her take in everything, then lay a hand on the table.

After a moment, she lowered herself to look across it at eye level.

“Wow, this must have taken a good chunk of time.”

Cam grinned. Finally. Some common sense.

“It was a labor of love.” He walked to the edge of the table. “My dad always said, build it for the man you want to become. He was usually talking about things around the house and car engines. But when I bought this place, this is the first thing I built.”

“Cool.” Emi nodded, totally getting what he was saying.
