Cam shook his head. It was sadder than he would have imagined. That didn’t mean he was all, “Let’s throw Jonathan a party and make him part of the group” but he certainly felt a small, tiny, wee little layer of pity coat over the animosity.

Then, without realizing he was even speaking, he said, “That’s just sad.”

And he meant it.

He even meant it when Jonathan broke free from Spence and tackled him to the ground again, hitting him with all the aggression he’d been showing for the last two decades.

This time, there was no tearing him off Cam who found himself actually working to fight back, get Jonathan off him, and get away.

“That’s enough!”

Cam was vaguely aware when the voice broke through the crowd.

“I said, that’s enough.”

Cam was more than happy to be done with this since he wasn’t twelve anymore, but Jonathan just kept swinging. He’d reached up, pushing his palm into Jonathan’s face to try to push him off when the first slam of cold water hit him.

Jonathan rolled off him to find Skye in full deputy mode with the fire department letting loose on them from a short hose.

“Jonathan Baines, Camden Ross.” Skye stood over them, arms crossed, somehow looking annoyed and amused at the same time. “You are under arrest for public brawling, disturbing the peace, and at Jamie’s request, being complete jackasses.”

Cam snorted and rolled to his feet. He turned and offered Jonathan a hand, which was promptly swatted away.

Then, because he was enjoying himself way too much, Cam put his hands out to be handcuffed.

“What?” Skye asked.

“Cuff me.”

“I don’t think it’s come to that.”

“Come on! When am I going to get arrested again?”

“If you and Jonathan stay in the same town much longer, probably on a regular basis because I am sick of your shenanigans.”

A wave of sadness washed over Cam as he realized there probably would be no more chances for Starlight Harbor shenanigans. Unless he worked hard to fit them in this month.

Instead, he just smiled at Skye and said, “Come on. Don’t be a spoilsport. I could make a break for it.”

She cuffed him because it was easier than not.

Everyone turned and looked at Jonathan.

“I have no interest in being handcuffed.”

There was a general grumbling through the crowd.

Blue Tie, who had remained so quiet up to this point, mumbled, “This town really grows on you, huh?”

Red Tie did not see the humor.

But Skye was walking a cuffed Cam and an uncuffed Jonathan, so Red Tie couldn’t really do anything about the rest of the conversation.

They were nearly to the town building which housed the sheriff’s department when Vivian came running up.

“What is going on? Why is he in cuffs? Why is Jonathan not in cuffs? Whose idea was this? I demand justice.”

Skye let out a long sigh and turned to an irate Vivian.
