“I had no reason to kill him. Tommy never even mentioned it to me, so I have no idea what kind of shit he was feeding you.” Tanner moved beside me. “Now you’re standing there, telling us, that you were the one who actually pulled the trigger?”

Tears started streaming down her face faster. “I was trying to kill Shade,” she sobbed.

Bile rose to my throat. Holy shit.

“Holy shit,” Tanner murmured.

I had known through just overhearing the guys talking about it, that Roxanne had a hand in Sunny’s death but hearing her say it, made it seem almost unbelievable.

“We have to tell Shade and Meadow,” I told Tanner, grabbing his hand and trying to lead him back to the SUV. I just wanted to get out of there and go home. I wanted him. I wanted to start a life with him and not have to worry about keeping him hidden. I wanted to go to the doctor’s together and have this pregnancy confirmed. I wanted to move on.

“Why go through all of this?” Tanner asked. “What’s in it for you?”

Roxanne stopped sniffling. It was like something switched in her. She went from a grieving widow to a psychopath in a matter of a second. “You took something from me, so I had to return the favor.”

“What the fuck are you talking about?” Tanner shook his head. “This doesn’t make any sense.”

“You took Tommy from me!” she screamed. “He was so fucking focused on ruining your life, I needed to take something from you that would hurt just the same. That’s why he had your dog killed. That’s why your girl was taken.”

“They were innocent in this!” Tanner yelled, his voice cracking.

“Tanner.” I tugged his hand, not wanting him to be seen by anyone else when he finally broke.

“Well as much as this has been fun, I think it’s time we all call it a night.”

All heads turned to a large man leaning against the brick wall by the door.

Sammy released Roxanne. “She’s all yours.”

The man grinned. “Good. I’ve been itching for blood.” He snapped his fingers.

Bear and Kid stepped forward. Without even being told, they grabbed for Roxanne before she could bolt. She started screaming when Kid grabbed the back of her neck and spun her around. His fingers locked onto her jaw, silencing her.

He leaned down to her ear, his eyes meeting mine. He mumbled something to her, keeping his gaze locked on me. There was something about him that I didn’t like. He had seemed nice enough at first but now, it was like he was a contradiction. While he had a smooth face and looked around my age, his eyes told a different story.

With his fingers digging into her jaw, he pulled her toward him.

She whimpered.

I swallowed hard, backing up a step.

His lips moved over words I couldn’t hear but understood just the same. I only imagined what he said to her. Threats. Promises of what they would do to her because she had done things she shouldn’t have.

“Busy?”

“I…” I shook my head, continuing to back up. “I don’t want to be here. We need to go. We really need to go.” I didn’t want to see what they would do to Roxanne. I had heard stories of women betraying bikers and how they had disappeared. It wasn’t the disappearing part that freaked me out. It was everything before that. What was done to them. What they went through. The pain. Agony. Sheer terror as they probably wished for death but knowing it would not come until the men were good and ready. They continued to live out their time in a way I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.

“Hey.” Tanner’s voice washed over me, but I couldn’t focus on him. All I could see was Roxanne being man-handled by Kid who probably told her things I couldn’t even imagine in my worst nightmares.

Roxanne somehow had gotten a little brave and shoved out of his grip.

He chuckled, the smile falling from his face a second later when his hand landed against the side of her head. The force knocked her to her knees.

A gasp escaped me.

Both Kid and Bear looked my way.

Tanner stood in front of me, blocking their line of sight. “Look at me and keep backing up. Do it, now, Busy.”
