I looked up at him and did as I was told.

“Only a few more feet, baby. Look at my face.”

I did. I let my eyes roam over every hard line of his features. His dark beard had grown in some. His nose was a little crooked. I had never asked him how it got that way. Maybe it was from getting punched.

“Almost there,” he said gently.

“What’s going on?” Cyrus asked from behind me.

“Busy saw something she shouldn’t have,” Tanner explained, keeping his gaze on me. “But to be fair, it wasn’t like they went out of their way to keep that shit hidden.”

“Fucking fucker.” Sammy stormed past us. “I hate people who beat women just for the sake of showing their power.”

“But you like it other times?” Tanner asked.

“Hey, if she wants to be slapped around and degraded because that’s her kink…well...” Sammy pulled the passenger door open and slipped into the SUV. “But before you judge me, I’ve only met one woman who wanted that shit.”

“What did you do?” I asked, not realizing that was a thing. God, my naivety was showing.

“I didn’t say no.” He winked, shutting the door behind him.

“Ignore him.” Cyrus walked past us. “Let’s go home before your dad throws a fit.”

I turned, finding Dad and Uncle Greyson still sitting on their bikes.

Tanner opened the back door, letting me slip inside before he joined me.

Once I had my seat belt done up, he wrapped me in his arms.

“I’m sorry,” he murmured, kissing my temple. “I am so fucking sorry for everything. For all the shit I’ve put you through in such a short amount of time.”

I let out a sigh, my breath wavering.

“I mean it, Busy.” Tanner kissed my cheek, leaning his forehead against the side of my head.

I cupped his knee, giving it a light squeeze but I was unable to get the image of him killing Tommy out of my head. It made me uneasy and I feared that it would ruin Tanner. “Are you okay?” I finally asked him, looking up into his dark eyes.

“Don’t worry about me.” He kissed my nose, sitting back and looking out the window.

“I guess Bear and Kid aren’t coming with us like Greyson wanted,” Cyrus pointed out.

“Nope. They’re preoccupied. Which is funny ’cause Kid doesn’t look like the type who would do that shit.” Sammy huffed. “Bee, don’t look out the window.”

Tanner shielded me from whatever was happening outside the club.

Cyrus pulled the SUV out of the parking lot with a screech of the tires. Uncle Greyson and Dad followed behind us. As soon as we were away from the club, I was finally able to breathe.

“Do you think we got all the answers we needed?” Sammy asked from the front, re-directing the conversation.

“I don’t know.” Cyrus scrubbed a hand down his face. “I really don’t know.”

I leaned my head against Tanner’s shoulder, thankful that we were finally back together and that the events of tonight were finally over.

“I love you, Busy,” he mumbled. “Don’t ever doubt that.”

I didn’t but I also wasn’t sure if it was enough.
