Shade chuckled, shaking his head.

“I’m sorry,” Meadow said, her voice cracking. “I just wanted someone to blame. That wasn’t fair of me.”

“I…” I returned the hug, squeezing her. “I’m sorry too.”

“No.” She leaned back, holding me at arm’s length. “I don’t like Tanner. Maybe I never will. But that’s not your fault. And…” She sighed. “But I know he didn’t shoot Sunny.”

“You do?”

I jumped at the deep voice coming from behind me.

Tanner stopped at my side, brushing his fingers down my arm.

My heart skipped a beat. Linking our fingers, I reveled in the way we both relaxed just because we were touching. Finally.

“Greyson told us that even though that video makes it look like you shot him, Roxanne admitted to killing him herself.” Shade shook his head. “We heard about your dog too. I’m sorry.”

“Thank you,” Tanner whispered.

“I understand people being jealous but that shit…that’s a whole other level.”

Meadow wrapped her hand around Shade’s arm. “We have answers now, baby.”

“Finally.” He kissed her forehead and cupped her stomach. “I just wish Sunny was here to have them.”

“I kind of feel bad for Roxanne,” I blurted.

Heads whipped around.

My cheeks heated. “I mean.” I cleared my throat. “She was obviously in love with Sunny, but that love took a darker turn when she realized that it was over between them. She probably thought that if she took Shade out like she had hoped, Sunny would go crawling back to her and she could console him. When that didn’t happen, she snapped. More than she did in the first place. And now, who knows what those bikers are going to do to her.” I shivered, my stomach twisting at the thought.

“I’m not sure I want to know.” Meadow grimaced.

“Greyson.” Shade stood taller. “You guys good?”

“Yeah.” He came up to us with my dad in tow. “Couple things. We’re not having a meeting tonight. We can talk tomorrow.” He looked at Tanner. “I also wanted to talk to you about Kitson or Kid as you call him.”

Tanner frowned. “I know him.”

“You do,” Uncle Greyson said. “He was the homeless kid you gave money to every time you left your apartment.”

I gaped at him.

“So this whole time, you actually knew where I was?” Tanner chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. “Wow. You guys are good.”

A cheeky grin spread on Uncle Greyson’s face. “Wasn’t my idea.”

“It was mine.”

All of us turned as Sammy and Cyrus joined our little group.

“When Sunny was shot, I couldn’t get it out of my head how you just disappeared,” Cyrus explained. “I became obsessed.”

“He did.” Sammy nodded. “It was annoying.”

“I met Kid a couple of years ago. Every now and again, we’ll meet up, ask favors of each other, the usual shit,” Cyrus said, ignoring his brother. “He’s a good guy but like you witnessed tonight, he has…” He coughed. “Issues. Anyway, I paid him to search you out and to lay low when he did. He knows people. Apparently, it’s someone you know.”

Tanner’s jaw clenched.
