Pain. Anguish. Fear.

“My aunt walked in us one night. She lost it and took a fire poker to me. She beat me with it until I finally escaped.”

Busy stiffened. “Are you serious? Who does that?”

“She did. I went to the basement and hid. But what’s fucked up is when I went back upstairs to see if she had calmed down, they were having sex. In the very bed her husband just finished fucking me in. It was sick. Probably more twisted than what my uncle had done to me.” I shook my head, bile rising to my throat. “Something inside of me snapped. I went to the garage and grabbed a can of gas. Brought it back to their room while they were in the middle of fucking and…I lit them on fire.”

“They deserved it,” Busy said, her voice firm.

“I’m a monster,” I murmured.

“No.” She pushed away from me. “What they did to you wasn’t right. You were a kid. You were impressionable.”

“Doesn’t make what I did any better, Busy.” I pulled her back into my arms. “But I’m not sorry for what I did. They were horrible people.”

She turned around, facing me. “Exactly. They got what they deserved. Maybe the way you did it wasn’t best but…” She shrugged. “Oh well.”

“Oh well?” I gaped at her. “How can you say that?”

“I don’t like people who hurt animals and children.”

I think I just fell in love with her more. “Most people don’t, baby.”

“But that’s just it. I would have made them suffer a bit,” she added softly.

I sighed, realizing I’d just met my match. “I love you.”

She poked me in the chest. “And I love you. Don’t let those demons tell you any different. Or I’ll kick their asses. Got me?”

“Yeah.” I placed a hard peck on her mouth. “I got you.”

But it still didn’t mean that I should have done what I did. No matter how much my aunt and uncle deserved what they got, it wasn’t right.

Later that night, while Busy slept soundlessly beside me, I stared up at the ceiling, wondering how in the hell I got someone like her to fall in love with me. I would probably never find out the answer. Instead, I would make it so Busy never felloutof love with me. I would be the best I could be.

For her.

THINGS WERE QUIET ANDit made me uneasy. After Greyson revealed the video, I hadn’t seen or heard from him since. I feared leaving the bedroom I was staying in, not knowing what would happen if I did. No one came to collect me. Not even the twins. I wasn’t sure why. It was like the calm before the storm. As cliché as it sounded, it was the only thing that could explain the absolute silence. I didn’t even hear any footsteps above me like I did when I first got to the large house.

I didn’t know how many days had passed since I spent the first day fucking Busy. I had been going to her ever since. Every chance I had; I was in her arms. If I wasn’t, she was coming to my room. She would crawl under the covers, push her naked body up against mine and calm the rage burning through me. I would make love to her, sometimes it would be fucking, and then I would fall asleep holding her. Sometimes we fell asleep while I was still inside her. The connection I shared with her was overpowering. It controlled my actions until all I cared about was putting a smile on her face. Keeping her happy was more important to me than finding out what Tommy wanted.

But even though that little fact was very well and true, it still pissed me off that everyone had been quiet.

I had read the same book at least four times before I’d had enough and slammed it down on the nightstand. I was about to leave the room and storm upstairs in search of Greyson when the door opened.

Busy stepped into the room, shutting the door behind her.

All breath left my lungs at the mere sight of her.

She gave me a small smile, blowing a loose curl out of her eyes. “Hi.”

“Hi, beautiful.”

Her smile grew.

I slid off the bed and went to her.
