“What’s up, bitch? Smiley called me to tell me what happened with the littlechavaloand some fool named Smoke from theseputoscalled the South Side GuNz. Why the face?” Colton asks.

“You look like someone choked your cat,” Leo says.

“Was that Lucy I just saw getting out of your car and walking inside the house?” Colton asks.

I sigh, rubbing my hand down my face and locking my car. My hands shake because of the pent-up rage I’m feeling.

“You assholes didn’t answer, and I was taking Lucy home when Hector called me. The kid is inside with his mom, and she is pissed at Hector and the Kings.”

“We know that part, dipshit. What’s up with you and Lucy?” Leo asks.

They both wait impatiently for me to drop the ball. “There is nothing up. I fucked up and hurt her, and I am a piece a shit that doesn’t deserve her and I just found out who she’s been seeing or rather… sleeping with.”

Colton snickers. “This has to be good. Who is the fucker? Do we have to kick his ass?”

I wave my hand toward the house. “If you want to do me a favor and kick Smiley’s ass so she will be pissed at you rather than me, that would be an excellent step in the right direction.”

“Damn, homes. She’s fucking Smiley?” Colton asks as he looks at me with a shocked expression, placing his hand over his mouth.

“You must be mad as fuck right now, carnal,” Leo chimes in.

“I feel like shit for what she went through, and I only have myself to blame.”

“Does Aiden know?” Leo asks.

I nod. “Yeah, she told him, and he apparently is cool with the whole thing.”

“Fuck. I never saw that coming. Lucy with Smiley and Aiden being cool with it,” Colton says, rubbing it in.

“They’re not together, ass wipe. They just slept together.”

I hate when he’s trying to get under my skin. He is still pissed off at me about the way things went down with Lucy and how I treated her but no one can be as pissed as I am.

Inside the house, a sight I didn’t expect greets me. Lucy is holding a baby in her arms, rocking the child as she whispers sweet words only the baby can hear. My heart constricts and the back of my eyes sting with tears. I am not a person who cries but watching her with the baby and knowing how much she wanted to be a mother to our child has me wanting to punch the wall and inflict pain on myself.

Her sexy legs are crossed one over the other while she holds the sleeping baby to her chest. The look of longing on her face makes me want to give her whatever she desires. Then my thoughts flick to the sonogram picture she gave me. That could have been her with our baby. I know we’re young, but I have more money than God and I’m sure she has a trust somewhere and even if her father would disown her, I have more than enough for my great-grandchildren for the rest of their lives.

The guys are in the kitchen and Khalani is in Linda’s room. Hector is sitting with his wife and gets up from the couch. The little chavalo and his mom are talking in hushed tones in one corner with Cholito, his dad.

“You good?” Hector asks, patting me on the back.

I clear my throat, trying to dislodge the lump that has formed. “Yeah.”

When Lucy looks up, her eyes are glassy, and I feel like such a monster. She won’t look at me and I guess I deserve that. I don’t deserve a minute of her time.

“Hector?” a short girl with long black hair calls out behind him.

“Not now, Esperanza,” he scolds her.

“Well, I need you to handle the issue with Cholito’s son, and don’t forget, we need to get the baby a crib tomorrow. He can’t sleep in the bed with us anymore.”

She points in Lucy’s direction. “He’s going to roll off and hit his head on the floor one of these days.”

“You want a seven-hundred-dollar crib, Esperanza. It’s not happening.”

She places her hands on her hips, and from the corner of my eye, I see Lucy walk up with the baby. Esperanza’s eyes soften toward Lucy. “It looks good on you,” she says to Lucy.
