“No!” Porter shouted.

Porter threw himself at Gabriel and in that second, Foi’s entire world felt as if it would be ripped right from under him. His body moved on its own and he went toward Porter and his father. He forgot about everything else except getting Porter away from him as Gabriel Manetti pistol-whipped Porter. The human dropped to the ground and fire filled Foi.

Foi didn’t make it to him as a gunshot went off and his legs crumpled under him.Get up.Foi stared at Porter as his beautiful brown eyes went wide and tears cleared a path through the blood that coated his face. Foi’s gaze frantically looked for a gunshot wound on Porter, but he didn’t see one.

Porter’s lips were moving, but the sound wasn’t reaching him. It was as if he was wrapped in a bubble and everything outside of it was muted. Foi sucked in a breath, but his lungs felt heavy, every breath harder to take in than the last.

Pain slowly trickled up his side and he realized too late that he was the one that had been shot. More pain assaulted him and the bubble popped around him as he was kicked in the side. A whimper slipped free, but he didn’t dare take his eyes off of Porter.

Gabriel and the other man moved closer to him.Run Porter and don’t look back. It didn’t matter if he died as long as Porter got out. He wanted to do so much with the human, so much he didn’t get to experience, but Foi felt no regret. He’d been given more than he’d ever dreamed of all those years ago when he was nothing but a lonely, mindless beast.

Darkness crept closer. He was kicked again and spots danced in his vision. Before it took over his sight completely a small black blur shot through the room.Spooky? There was no way in hell the little kitten was there. He mentally screamed at himself to open his eyes to make sure Porter got away. But it didn’t happen. Please, Porter.

For the first time in ages, Foi begged the goddess of wolves to protect his mates.

The last ofPorter's sanity cracked. He could barely hear the world around him after the gunshot rang out, his ears ringing as he stared at Foi in disbelief. His wolf went down in a heap, Michele's foot stomping into his side. And there was his father.

Laughing.

How could someone be so evil? The man was willing to torture Porter for the rest of his life and for what? What had he ever done that was so terrible he didn't deserve to fall in love, be loved in return, and be free?

On autopilot, he forced himself to move. All of the pain had disappeared, his body numb even as he felt the wet, hot splash of tears rolling down his cheeks. He picked up the gun that had fallen to the ground from one of the guards and the weight of it was like a brick in his palm. Porter never wanted to kill before. Life was precious and he didn't want to end anyone. But his father had killed the last shard of him that cared.Gabriel needed to die.

The rest of the room had erupted into chaos. As guards dropped, Porter barely registered a man cutting them down one after the other. He had no idea who he was, but his attention was quickly drawn back to his father. The man noticed the gun in his hand and chuckled.

"Put the gun down, son," Gabriel said, that smug smirk curling his lips. "We both know you can't pull the trigger. You don't have the balls."

Porter's hand shook, his finger wrapped around the trigger. "You don't know me," his voice trembled. "And you never gave a fuck about knowing me. All you cared about is that I killed mom. That's all you've ever seen me as. Her murderer. Fuck you!"

Gabriel's smile faltered. "Don't talk about her. You know I can't stand to hear you talk about her," he sneered. "Go on and pull the fucking trigger then. I'll never accept having such a weak, soft son. You're pathetic."

"Why couldn't you just leave me alone!"

"Never," Gabriel countered. As Porter struggled, his smile returned. "Like I said, you don't have the balls."

"Well, I do."

Porter's head spun in the direction of his sister. She aimed a gun at their father, anger written all over her face. There was blood smeared on her cheek and her jeans were ripped, but she didn't even falter.

"You're never going to change," she said with a shake of her head. “For years all I’ve hoped for is that you would stop being this way, but you’re not. You’re going to blame and torture Porter forever, aren’t you?”

"Amy, put the damn gun down."

She shook her head. “Just stop! God, how can you hate your own kids? Do you think this is what Mom would have wanted? She would be so ashamed of what we’ve become.”

“That’s enough!” Gabriel growled. “Put the fucking gun down. Now!”

The moment Gabriel walked toward her, Amy squeezed the trigger. Porter jumped as the bullet slammed into their father's chest. The man stood there for a moment, took a step forward, and fell to the floor. A pool of blood spread from underneath his body, growing and growing as he twitched. Finally, he went still.

Is he really dead?

Disbelief filled Porter. The man that had tortured and hurt him for years was really gone. A numbness settled around his heart that he knew was only temporary. Sooner or later, he would have to deal with what had just happened. He glanced up and made eye contact with his sister. The flash of pain in her eyes made his heart ache more. He should have been the one to kill his father, not her. Now, she had to live with that memory. Forever.

"Get Foi," she snapped, her face turning back into a wall of passive nothingness.

Michele growled as he threw a man so hard his back slammed into a table and he went down in a heap. He turned on his heels and Porter swallowed thickly.Shit, shit, shit. The man was going to kill them both.

"Shoot him, Porter!" Amy grunted as a guard grabbed her and slammed her to the ground.
