Arden's amber-colored eyes met Eldon’s through the rearview mirror. There were so many complex emotions swimming in those dark pools.

“Fine but I have warned all of you.” Arden’s shoulders tensed and Eldon knew the man was going to say something stupid, thinking it would get them all to change their mind.

“Whatever you’re about to say, keep it. You’re stuck with us,” Spooky said.

Gamble laughed, already rolling up in preparation for the drive, but he nodded his head. Micha bit his lip as he nodded as well. None of them were going to turn away from Arden.

“You’re more than our boss,” the Nephilim said.

The car went silent again and Eldon could feel the air grow tense. The next question hung heavy in the air.So what were they?

The need to ask weighed heavily on his tongue but he kept it at bay. It wasn’t the time, not when everything was still so new. Something had obviously happened between Arden and Bash. And it was a no brainer that Spooky and Gamble both slept with the dragon. Micha clung to him and it was known the Nephilim tended to sleep either with Gamble or Arden at night now. Eldon had his moments with Arden and some of the others. But no one had bluntly said anything about what they were.

“Just be ready,” Arden said.

Bash growled. “What he means is don’t be surprised when you find out he’d not perfect.”

“Who the fuck is?” Gamble mumbled. He pointed to Bash. “Umm—” He snapped his fingers and his head tilted.

“I am going to kill you,” Bash retorted.

Gamble attempted to hide his smile but Eldon caught it. “Stop messing with Bash.”

“Oh yeah that’s his name.”

Eldon reached forward and popped Gamble in the back of the head. “Stop antagonizing him before we tie you down and leave you to him.”

There was a collective groan and Eldon knew he got everyone’s mind off the tense subject and onto more tempting thoughts.

Arden finally started the car and Eldon relaxed. Time seemed to pass fast and slow as they left the safety of Silvercross city behind. Most supernaturals didn’t travel outside of the safe zones that were deemed theirs. It was only luck most of them could pass off as human and with Micha being a nephilim most humans wouldn't bluntly attack him. It had something to do with religion. Yeah, it was odd, but Eldon was grateful for it right now.

The car ride had started so peaceful but Eldon knew it wouldn’t last long, not with the bunch they had. Two hours in and all hell broke loose. Spooky started to antagonize Gamble and in turn, Gamble started shit with Bash. Micha attempted to be a peacemaker but no one listened to him. They babied him and as the sun started to rise, Eldon knew he needed to stay down and sleep. There was no telling what they needed to be ready for once they reached Arden’s home. The dragon had been warning them since they had decided to join him, but none of them knew what he was warning them of exactly.

“Don’t be a pussy, Gamble,” Spooky shouted.

“I will fuck your ass pussy if you keep testing me,” Gamble shot back.

“As if you could,” Bash added.

And the three went back and forth. Eldon sat up and saw the muscle tick in Arden’s jaw. Any minute and the dragon would lose his shit. He mentally counted down from ten before Arden blew up.

“All of you shut the hell up! What are you, children?”

“Compared to how old you are, we might as well be,” Bash said.

The car erupted in laughter but the glare Arden kept shooting the bear shifter’s way spoke of payback. Eldon was just glad that look wasn’t directed at him.

“Damn Arden, you going to take that lying down? Or do you like that now?” Gamble asked

Eldon pinched the bridge of his nose. He was practically asking for it now.

“You are going to pay for that comment,” Arden growled.

“Oh me and Micha want to watch Gamble get a spanking,” Spooky said.

Micha’s mouth dropped open. “We do?”

Spooky nudged his shoulder but as he turned around he noticed that Eldon was up. The familiar unbuckled and was in the backseat before Eldon even knew what was happening.
