“Sir Claivore, you served in the war of the ice, correct?” Justice asked.

Eldon didn’t look at anyone else, his gaze boring into Arden. This wasn’t a wait for later situation. The vampire turned on his heels and walked out of the ball. He’d spotted an area clear of people that would work.

“What is the matter? Is Micha hurt?” Arden asked.

Yes.Eldon’s back stiffened as he faced the dragon that had his heart from the moment they’d met. He knew what he was about to say would destroy him.

“Physically, he’s fine,” Eldon said.

Arden’s amber eyes flickered with his dragons. “What does that mean?”

Eldon swallowed and prepared himself knowing there was no way he couldn’t tell him. Even if the vampire wished to keep the pain to himself it would only hurt Arden more if it was kept from him any longer.

His mouth moved and the words spilled out. Everything was either going to blow up and end what had only just begun or they'd break and help each other put the pieces back together. Eldon prayed it was the latter.

Arden stared at Eldon. The vampire’s lips had stopped moving long ago, but there was still ringing in his ears. It intensified and heat shot through his body as he wavered on his feet.

“Arden? Arden? Arden!”

The man looked at Eldon again and this time he could hear him. Eldon’s face was shadowed with concern and he reached out to touch Arden, but the dragon shot back away from him. He could already feel the gathering of his electricity and he didn’t want to singe Eldon.

“What was that name again?” he asked.

“Janek,” Eldon said. “That’s what he said.”

“Where is he?”

Eldon's brow furrowed. “Janek or Micha?”

“Micha.”

Slowly, Eldon reached out again, but when Arden avoided his touch once more, he pulled back. The pain on his face stabbed Arden to his core, but he couldn’t focus on it. Not now. Janek was planning on killing him and Micha, he needed to find that lying little demon.

That’s what the strange feeling was around him. He’d ignored every instinct because he was so desperate to be loved and accepted. Pathetic.

Arden turned on his heels and headed for the bathroom. He grabbed the knob, but it was locked. Gamble shook his head.

“I’ve been trying, but all I heard was him crying and now he won’t talk to me at all.”

Arden didn’t say a word. He rammed his shoulder against the door, slamming himself against the thick wood until pain traveled up and down his arms and made his fingers tense. Another body slammed against the door alongside his own. When he looked over it wasn’t a man, but a huge auburn bear that was throwing itself against the door alongside him. The wood splintered and broke and they crashed through it together.

But there was no Micha.

The window was wide open and Arden stuck his head out of it. On the ground below there was nothing, but Micha didn’t need the ground. He had wings. Arden yanked his head back in and snatched off the tie around his neck.

“Wait a minute, Arden,” Eldon called. “We need to talk about this.”

“No more talking.”

Arden stormed out of the bathroom and made his way to the back of the palace. The moment he was outside and could shift without destroying the place, that’s exactly what he did. Blue scales tinged with purple rippled over his body as he grew to ten times his original size. A huge tail whipped behind him and when he growled the ground shook.

“Shit,” Bash growled and grabbed onto Arden. “I’m going with you.”

The dragon didn’t protest as Bash climbed him like it was nothing at all. Bare skin pressed against his scales, and once he was sure Bash was holding on, he shook out his wings and shot into the sky.

“Arden! Listen to me, Arden! Goddamnit!” Eldon yelled.

He couldn’t wait and listen to Eldon. Right now, he needed to find Micha and find out exactly what the hell was going on with him. From Micha’s own lips he needed to know if the angel was really planning to have him murdered.
