“Do you still want that?”

Micha shook his head. “No. But I’ve tried to talk to him before the ball and he never showed up. I planned on telling him how Arden was different, how he’s nice, caring, and sometimes stern but only with the people he cares about. He gives his all to everyone and I don’t want him to die.”

Eldon's vamp sped over to Micha. “Die? What do you mean?”

Micha sucked in a shuddering breath. “It’s what he’s planning,” Micha whispered. “Janek said the only way to truly take down a dragon is to kill it. And I know he hates Arden, I can see it in his eyes.”

The pure agony on Micha’s face made Eldon’s chest ache. He was clearly struggling with everything. Eldon had many more questions, but what he needed to do first was talk to Arden and make sure he was safe.

“Wait, you said you tried to meet him before the ball. Is he here?”

Micha nodded.

“We need to tell Arden.” Eldon shook his head after thinking about it. “Micha, you stay here okay? This is a lot. I'm not going to sugarcoat it.” Eldon tilted Micha's head up. “This hurts and it makes me question a lot that happened between us.”

“It was all real. Everything!” Micha’s eyes widened. “I never wanted to hurt any of you. I wa-was just…Confused.”

Eldon kissed Micha’s forehead. “We will talk more once I get Arden.” Eldon stepped back but stopped as Micha grabbed his suit.

“I’m sorry.” Micha’s voice broke as he released his hold on Eldon.

What were the right words? It’s okay that he betrayed them? That he lied for months to their faces? It didn’t feel right.

The vampire grabbed Micha’s hand and kissed his fingers. “Remember when you said you trust that I’d never hurt you?”

Micha nodded.

“Then continue to believe that.” Eldon closed his eyes and pressed one final kiss to Micha’s hand. “I promised I’d take care of you sweetness and I meant it.”

Eldon vamp sped out of the bathroom and glanced around the room. More dragons joined in on their conversation but there was only one dragon on his mind. He spotted Arden with Justice on his arm talking to a group.

“Hey Eldon you’ve been missing out. I’ve had to wrangle Spooky in a few times. Had to hand him over to Bash for watching. I mean don’t get me wrong I don’t like the fact she’s touching what’s ours—”

Perfect.

Eldon pulled him closer so he didn’t speak too loudly. “Gamble, I need you to go to the bathroom and sit with Micha.”

The witch stood up straighter, his olive green eyes focused. “What happened?”

Eldon shook his head. Gamble didn’t ask any further questions as he turned away and headed toward the direction Eldon had just left. The vampire knew it wasn’t going to look good but he needed to get their mate and it couldn’t wait till later.

He made his way through the throng of people and was at Arden’s side in seconds. The group laughed.

“You two are perfect for our kingdom. It is a glorious day praise Abraxas he looked favorably upon us to have you two join in union.”

“Imagine the dragonlings you two will have.”

Eldon wanted to kill them all. The idea of Justice and Arden being perfect for each other was absurd. It took every ounce of control to keep his fangs at bay and the blood lust not to show on his face.

“Arden, I need to speak with you,” Eldon said.

“Oh I’m sure it can wait. After all these are the future—”

“Now,” Eldon interrupted the man, not caring if he was rude. They were lucky he hadn’t already dragged Arden away.

Arden’s brows dipped along with his lips. He turned to the group. “Excuse me.”

“You can—”
