Arden groaned as irritation inched up his spine. “Goddamnit, it Just.”

“Hey, I saved your life out on the battlefield asshole,” she said as she jabbed a finger into his still aching chest. “So if I say jump you’ll ask how high, got it?”

“Yes, ma’am,” he muttered.

She softened. “It’s all going to be okay. Being home for a little while might be the best thing for you.”

Arden wanted to deny it, but he felt it deep in his soul. Havenwood was where he belonged for now. PGD would always be waiting for him; the rumors would die, the lies would be revealed, and people would be waiting to come back to the oasis that he had created. But Ezra had been right. He’d run from his responsibility once before.

He wasn’t going to do that again.

The sound of commotion drew his attention from Justice. Arden turned as the bedroom door flew open and Spooky ran to him, his eyes wide.

“Micha’s awake!”

Every emotion in Arden tried to climb to the surface at once and his heart thudded so hard it hurt. He rubbed at his chest, his eyes wild as he looked from Spooky to Justice and back again.

“I’ll handle things. Go,” Justice said.

Arden didn’t have to be told twice. Ignoring every ache and pain that throbbed in his body he ran to the bedroom and slammed open the door. There, sitting up in bed, was his broken angel.

Sittingup felt like he was being stabbed repeatedly in the back. Micha swallowed back the scream that sat at the back of his throat waiting to be let free. Breathing in through his nose and out of his mouth helped him keep calm as Eldon assisted him in sitting upright. The vampire’s cool touch was welcomed and he wanted to ask Eldon to strip and press up against him.

The nephilim felt too hot.

“Maybe he should stay laying down,” Bash growled.

“No.” His voice was scratchy to his own ears. Micha needed to get up and face what he’d done.

Finally, with Eldon’s help, Micha was up. His breathing was labored and sweat beaded on his brow. He lifted his head and looked around the room as he felt all their eyes on him.

Micha had honestly expected to wake up alone in a dark room. But instead, he was surrounded by the men he’d fallen in love with. Warmth spread throughout his chest even as his gaze finally met Arden’s. A sigh of relief left him and the tears he’d been keeping at bay broke free.

“You’re okay.”

Arden stayed by the door staring at Micha and a part of the nephilim knew it was his way of keeping distance between them. It was probably for the best.

“Arden,” Eldon said.

The vampire was still touching Micha gently caressing his arm. Micha knew he didn’t deserve it but he couldn’t find it in him to tell Eldon to stop. Not when he needed it so badly.

Selfish piece of shit.

Micha closed his eyes. “I- I can go.”

“Go where?” Bash growled.

Micha smiled at the bear but it didn’t hold up. It fell all too quickly; he couldn't keep it up when he knew he was losing everything.

“Arden!” Eldon’s fingers tightened around Micha’s arms. He glanced at the vampire. But Eldon was staring at Arden.

Bash growled and got up from the bed. “You can’t be ser—”

“Everyone shut up!” Arden roared. His voice echoed around the room.

Micha’s stomach tightened but what did it say that even when Arden shouted he didn’t feel a lick of fear. He felt safe with him.

The room went silent as the tension thickened. Arden took a step forward but stopped, his gaze never wavering from Micha.
