“You lied to me. To all of us.”

It wasn’t a question but Micha nodded anyway. “Yes.”

“Was this your plan the whole time?” Arden growled.

Micha balled his fist into the cover that smelled of all of them. “No.” He looked up at everyone. “I was just supposed to get information and get out. Nothing else.” Micha shook his head. “That isn’t true either.” He sucked in a breath and he knew this would only make them hate him more but he couldn’t lie to them. “After a while when I couldn’t get any results I was told to seduce you.”

Arden stumbled back. “Were you already in my bed by then?”

Micha shook his head.

“Then all the times—”

“No!” Micha moved and regretted it instantly as searing white pain shot down his spine. His stomach turned and the world felt as if it had flipped upside down. He squeezed his eyes shut breathing through the nausea. He had to speak before Arden continued to come up with worse case scenarios.

“I tried once,” Micha said through clenched teeth. He lifted his head once more and stared at Arden silently begging him to listen and believe him. “I passed out the moment I tried. After that I figured you’d never look at me like that and gave up.” He sucked in a shuddering breath. “Anything that happened between us was never a part of any plan. I never told Janek about any of us.” Micha’s hands throbbed with how tight he was clenching his fist. “When I was with any of you, everything we did was real. I did them because you made me feel safe and cared for. Something I’ve never had.”

“How do I know you’re telling the truth? This could all be to make me—”

“Because!”

“Because what Micha?” Arden ran up to the bed and slammed his hands down. “Why should I believe you?”

Micha’s throat dried up and his heart plummeted as he tried to grasp at the right thing to tell Arden.

Spooky moved, hopping on the bed in front of Arden and blocking Micha. He shoved the big dragon. “You don’t get to yell at him.”

Arden growled. “Spooky sit down.”

“No!” Spooky poked him in the chest. “You have no idea what he did for you. For us.”

“Spooky,” Micha pleaded.

The familiar glanced over at him, his brows dipped. “Why do you want him to yell at you so badly?” Spooky shook his head.

Because he deserved it.“It was all my fault.”

“No it wasn’t,” Eldon hissed.

Micha shook his head and he pulled away from the vampire ignoring the pain in his body. It didn’t matter what they said, Micha knew the truth. And he deserved every ounce of hatred and anger from Arden.

He looked at Arden. The room was bathed in silence once more and Micha was tempted to ask for the guys to leave. He didn’t want them fighting with Arden.

“What did you do?” Arden asked.

Micha shook his head. “Nothing—”

“Don’t you lie,” Eldon said.

Micha’s head snapped to the side as he stared into Eldon’s steel grey eyes. He’d never truly seen Eldon angry up close. Micha’s mouth shut.

Arden growled.

“Fuck this.” Spooky jumped off the bed and headed toward Micha. Pointing “That injury on his back is because he took a direct hit from your lightning after dragging you back from your rampage.” Spooky’s voice wavered. “None of us knew what to do—” He shook his head. “No we couldn’t do anything and we knew we were losing you. Micha went up there with broken wings and brought you back to us.”

The nephilim looked at his fingers, those too were covered in bandages.

“Is that true Micha?” Arden asked.
