“Sorry,” Micha whispered.

He turned to face Gamble and stopped short at the heat in Gamble’s gaze. He normally showed nothing more than indifference.

“Don’t be. It happens.” And just like that, the blank look returned to Gamble’s handsome face.

Micha shivered, and his stupid body wanted nothing more than to continue to feel Gamble’s gaze on him. He shook his head and sat on his bed. “Why are you outside during the day anyway?”

“Clearly, I’m hiding,” Gamble said. “But trying to find a shady place to sleep in this city is bullshit. It’s hot, smelly.” He rubbed his body. “Not to mention I’m getting a damn crook in my neck at this point.”

Micha got up and moved closer to Gamble. He reached for the witch, and the moment his fingers came in contact with his heated flesh, another shiver of desire raced down his spine.

“What are you doing?” Gamble attempted to pull away, but Micha tightened his hold and began to massage.

The witch gave up quickly, and a flutter erupted in Micha’s ribcage as he continued to rub Gamble’s neck. They said nothing for a while, and Micha lost himself, making sure not to put too much pressure and focus on the areas that felt tight.

After a few minutes, he reluctantly stopped touching Gamble and placed his hands on his legs. His fingertips tingled. Micha could easily continue touching the witch.

“Uh thanks.” Gamble tilted his head every which way before a huge smile came over his face. “Damn, your hands are magic.”

Micha sat up straighter, and he felt his own grin stretch on his lips. “Thank you.”

Gamble cocked a brow at him. “You know you’re a bit strange. Why are you thanking me?” Gamble shook his head. “Anyway, why are you up?”

Micha didn’t want to think about the phone call that had roused him from his peaceful slumber. “Needed a shower.”

Don’t ask. Please. He held his breath, knowing there would be more questions he couldn’t answer no matter how badly he wanted to talk about it.

Gamble’s mouth opened and Micha’s heart fluttered. Please no, just forget it.Gamble’s olive green eyes went out of focus for a second before he shut his mouth and shook his head.

“Okay.”

Lucky.Micha blew out a breath as Gamble got up. “I better head back out. I just came to sneak a few more clothes out of my room and maybe a pillow.”

“Um, if you want, you can sleep here,” Micha blurted.

Gamble glanced his way. “Really?” The witch looked him up and down. “Why?”

Micha’s face heated, but he didn’t ball up like usual. He didn’t want to be so weak all the time.

“You need a bed to sleep in. I have a bed.”

Gamble nodded. “Yeah I know that but why are you offering? What do you get out of it?”

Gamble stretched, and his shirt lifted slightly, giving a glimpse at smooth brown skin. Micha’s eyes were drawn to it instantly, and he licked his lips.

“Don’t give me a bullshit answer either,” Gamble said, drawing his attention back to him. “People always want something. No one does anything out of the kindness of their hearts without it benefiting them in some way.”

“That’s not true. Some people help others without any reason.”

Gamble laughed, but it was void of any humor. “That isn’t true and if you believe that, you are even more naive than I thought.”

Micha looked down at his hands. Maybe he shouldn’t have said anything. His head shot up. “Okay you’re right.”

“Then what are you getting out of it?” Gamble asked.

“I don’t want be alone in here.” Micha audibly swallowed and straightened his spine. “I—had a bad dream recently and I know I’ll sleep better with someone near me.”

“Although I’m a stranger?” Gamble asked.
