Micha nodded. “I get the feeling you won’t hurt me.”

Gamble sighed. “Naive as fuck.”

He headed toward the door, and Micha’s heart plummeted.

Gamble glanced over his shoulder. “I’m going to take a shower and then I’ll be right back. I don’t want to dirty up the bed. If you want, you can come sit in the bathroom.”

Micha sprung up from the bed and felt lighter with each step he took. “Okay.”

* * *

“Hey Eldon, where’s Arden?”The vampire was busy moving around the main floor. It was mostly Arden down there getting things set up for the night but Eldon had started taking on a lot more as well.

“Huh?”

“You know, the boss,” Micha said, but it felt as if Eldon wasn’t paying attention to him.

He waved his hand in front of Eldon’s face, but even that didn’t catch the vampire’s attention. Micha had come downstairs early only to catch Arden before the meeting. But the dragon was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps he was in his office.

Eldon checked something off on his tablet before looking at Micha. “Oh Micha, when did you get down here?”

“Really?”

Eldon flicked the piercing in his lip as the corners of his mouth tilted up in a smirk. “You want the big man, right?”

So he had heard him. Micha nodded. He crossed his arms and waited for Eldon to spit it out. He’d woken up with a renewed vigor in what he needed to do.

Eldon swiped his thumb across Micha’s bottom lip, and instant shivers ran down Micha’s spine. His arms fell away, and warmth spread throughout his chest.

“Don’t pout, it makes me want to give in and give you everything.” Eldon’s thumb pressed into Micha’s chin, and he tilted his head slightly, taking up all of Micha’s awareness.

“And then some. You’d be a pampered angel,” Eldon whispered.

Yes, please.Micha caught the whimper before it escaped. He couldn’t allow himself to be dragged into a dream of milkshakes and unicorns. His reality couldn’t be with Eldon or any of the men at the host bar. Once he was done, they wouldn’t want anything to do with him. Even with the truth about Arden coming to light, Micha wasn’t so delusional to think that the others would forgive him for his lies.

As the realization sank in, the bitter taste in his mouth renewed, and Micha forced himself to pull back, but Eldon wasn’t having any of it. His hand dropped from Micha’s face to his waist, and he pulled him close again. His cool body was oddly comforting, and Micha wanted nothing more than to ask Eldon to come join him in bed and hold him. Maybe Gamble and Spooky too.

“What just happened?” Eldon asked. “Where did you go?”

Micha blinked out of his fantasy and took in a shuddering breath. Another mistake. He was engulfed in Eldon’s scent, it was spicy, luring Micha in.

“Nothing happened,” Micha squeezed out.

Can’t tell him. He couldn’t tell him.

Eldon tightened around him, and Micha’s eyes closed, as he allowed himself a second to dream of the what-ifs before bottling them all up and tossing them behind a metaphorical door and locking it.

“Okay well if you ever want to talk about it my door is always open.”

“Your door was closed this morning.” The words slipped out before Micha could think better of them.

Eldon pulled back, and his dark brows dipped. “You came looking for me this morning?”

Micha looked away, remembering his weakness all too well. “Yes, but that’s not important.” He cleared his throat and faced Eldon once more. “Where is Arden?”

Eldon opened his mouth but closed it as his face blanked out, and he was the calm and collected Eldon as usual.

“He is preoccupied right now. I will be handling the meeting. He will be down here in time for the event.” Eldon’s head tilted, and his artfully messy black hair flopped to the side.
