“And you did! What are you doing here?” she asked again.

“To ask you to marry me.”

“Wait, what? Really?”

Then he burst into laughter.

“You tease!” Amelia shouted.

“I’m sorry. I thought it’d be funny, given our history. But Ididcome here to ask you out, on a real date, not a setup.”

“You drove all the way up here just to ask me out on a date?”

“I sure did, and I’d do it again any day. So, what do you say? Will you go out with me, Amelia Ainsworth?”

She didn’t say anything back. Instead, she jumped up, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him lovingly on the lips. His mouth tasted so good, his tongue so passionately dancing in her mouth, and she didn’t want to pull away.

“Wait, but I thought you didn’t want anything to do with me until I figured things out, until I figured out what I wanted,” Amelia asked when she pulled away.

“I thought that’s what would be best for us. I didn’t want us rushing into anything until we’re both completely certain. But every day without you felt like I was missing a piece of myself, and I hadn’t realized how much I actually do love you until you said it back. So, the hell with my dumb idea. We both love each other, so let’s just be with each other!” He bent down and kissed her again, wrapping his arms around her waist and tilting her head back. “So, where would you like to go? Anywhere you want.”

Amelia thought about it for a minute, her finger tapping against her chin. “There’s this new arcade near here that I’ve been dying to go to. What do you say we make it our firstofficialdate?”
