Epilogue

Evie

One year later

Isak has a huge following on Tarvos.

When the Hurlians attacked I livestreamed his announcement not only to the main governments and citizens of the four sectors, but I also directed our vid message toward the Hyrrokin news channels as well as the government, Hyrrokin royalty, and the influencers on Tarvos such as the Ashmoors and their fire lord.

Apparently, Isak is now hugely popular his home planet?

He and his brother are considered heroes to the Hyrrokin, which is wonderful, because their father is in prison for treason. I’m happy for them because they both deserve this type of recognition. Unlike the Xylan, most beings in the four sectors agree that the sins of the father are not to be visited upon the sons.

We stayed with Lorelei and Cabal through the rest of the winter, right until they reopened the monastery again and the pilgrims began arriving, then we left. To be truthful I was happy to return to civilization and plug in my cleaning bot, and my food and clothing dispensers. Lorelei and Cabal truly enjoy living their simple life, but for Isak and I, it’s not something we prefer long-term.

I’m going to miss seeing Isak’s brother and my new sister-in-law and their baby in person on a daily basis, but the good news is, we are still living on Salo, in my tiny domicile, while we await our new home on the mountainside to be finished. None of us are that far away from the others.

My new husband is now the Inspector General for the Intergalactic Federation of Planets. His sole job is to monitor violations of the Indigenous Species Act, or species-rights violations and war crimes. I’m so very proud of Isak. It is a perfect job for a male of his high ethical standards. I feel it gives him and his brother much in common to talk about.

I’m now a mother and a wife and I can’t believe how happy I am to have all this family. One thing that was the same about both Isak and I—neither of us had family. We were both essentially alone in the universe and now we’ve reconnected with others and also started our own family. I think I never knew how much I liked small children until I had my own. We ended up with two twin sons, whom we named Hugin and Munin. So now I’ve got three small children and many cleaning bots. I even have two cats now! Isak loves the cats maybe more than I do.

Isak and his brother are best friends, and the two of them often meet up with another Hyrrokin on Salo named Skogg. Lorelei and I were excited to learn there was a third human female on Salo also married to a Hyrrokin. The three of us have become fast friends.

I’m ghost writing a book for Emma about an apparition called the “Red Soldier”? It’s essentially the story of how she and Skogg met. It’s a terrific story and I think it will sell well. In fact, we already have an agent and the book went to “auction” and vid production companies are already reaching out to us…

“You two need to go back to Tarvos with me, when I go and visit my uncle Barnabas. It would be good for you both to revisit our home planet again,” Skogg says to Isak and Cabal during dinner one night at Firebrook Castle.

The two brothers shake their heads in denial, but I meet the gaze of my two human friends, and we share secret smiles. Oh yes, we’re all going to return to Tarvos someday soon. I’m certain of it!
