“Well, I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I’ve sent Dobson home, so there will be no returning to Wall Street tonight.”

“Then we’ll walk.”

I almost laugh out loud at the expression on his face as he says tightly, “No.”

He turns to leave and I say icily, “You really are a jackass, aren’t you?”

“Excuse me?”

He turns slowly and I stand facing him, hands on hips. “I am doing this for you, and you are fighting me. So, word of advice, don’t piss me off if you value your health because I can make anything look like an accident and you are an accident waiting to happen.”

“Are you threatening me?”

His eyes darken and I feel strangely turned on by that. What can I say, I have a particular weakness for strong angry men and this one ticks all those boxes and then some?

“No, Hunter, darling, I’m making you a promise, so grab your coat, keys, whatever the fuck you need, and let’s take a walk on the wild side. Don’t worry, if anyone even looks at you in the wrong way, I am fully trained to kick the shit out of them. Shall we?”

I smile and he steps back a little as if I’ve punched him in the gut and he shakes his head and drags his gaze along the length of me. “Are you thinking of going like that?”

“Works for me. I’m not out to impress anyone.”

He shrugs. “Up to you, what do I care if you dress like a teenager.”

He turns and heads toward the elevator, and I have no choice but to follow him. Great, a walk on the wild side with Lucifer himself. Way to go Lexi, you’re living the dream.
