I’m the first to pull over by the curb and come to a stop. When the rest of them pull up next to me, we all cut our engines.

“Cas doesn’t want us causing trouble,” Mason warns uncharacteristically.

“I’m pretty sure we’re about to act in self-defence. Didn’t you see one of them try to shoot me?”

A slow grin stretches across his lips and he cracks his knuckles.

“What’s going on?” Myles asks.

“We’re defending ourselves.”

He frowns, looking confused.

“Just follow JJ’s lead. Our brother needs to vent,” Mason tells him, wearing his own wicked smirk.

Angel laughs. “Fucking hell, Myles. It’s fight time.”

Myles’ grin matches his twin’s. “That’s all you had to say.”

We make our way to the entrance, but the dumb fucks don’t even notice us approaching. The Lost Souls don’t need to plan an attack, and that’s the beauty of brotherhood. We bounce off each other without having to say a word.

I head toward the biggest of their group, and as he turns, I clench my fist and smash it into his jaw. It stuns him, and I lose it. Knowing the twins and Angel can hold their own, I focus on the prick stumbling back in front of me.

Before he can get his head straight and strike back, I’m following up my first punch with a left hook. For a big guy, he isn’t so tough. When he falls on his ass, I drop down on top of him, pounding him with blows to his ribs and face. There’s no losing steam. I pour all my rage into this Dead Rat cunt, and somewhere close, I hear my brothers dealing out their own acts of violence against our enemy. This is what they get for thinking they can rock up in our town without consequences.

Pain shoots up into my wrists, but it only fuels me. The fucker tries throwing punches, but I’m too far gone, feeling nothing. Because of these assholes, my wife had to enter a facility too far from home instead of the one an hour away.

I land one last punch before I’m dragged back, and it’s not until I squeeze my eyes shut to get rid of the red haze that I see all the Dead Rats knocked out on the ground.

“We should get out of here,” Angel suggests breathlessly.

A few people look away as we run for our rides. It’d be impossible to cover our tracks, to make sure there are no witnesses around, but I don’t care for it today. I want people to see what we did. To see that the Lost Souls are doing something about the new club in town.

Driving to the club, I embrace the air hitting the open skin on my knuckles. It’s better to feel the stinging pain than to feel the emptiness Harper’s absence has left behind.

The gates roll open as we approach, and it’s no surprise that Cas is waiting for us. Leo stands beside him and raises his brows twice, giving us the code that our secret is out.

I’m not shocked that Cas has heard about what went down. He has eyes everywhere.

Killing the engine, I swing my legs out of the car and walk toward him. I’m not in the mood to get grilled or lectured, but I may as well get this over with. Besides, it’s not like I can hide my bloodied knuckles.

“Harper?” he asks.

“She’s booked in. I’m going to call up later and get an update.”

“I get that you’re pissed and worried about your old lady, but you went against an order.”

“They were about to attack.”

“Bullshit,” he drawls. “You picked a fight and went against me.”

“Hardly,” I snort. “The assholes deserved it.”

“No doubt about that. But I gave you a direct order, and you disobeyed.”

“I saw them, saw red, and we laid them out. It took less than five minutes, and it felt fucking amazing.”

Before he can spout another word, my dad walks out. Taking in the damage to my knuckles, he rolls his eyes.
