Through the wall, we hear Holly singing softly to Rayna, and I wonder what she’s been told.

Leaning up on my elbow, I look down at her. “One year. Give me a year to sort shit out, and then we’ll start our own family.”
“A year?”
“Three hundred and sixty-five days.”
“Don’t you want to enjoy it being us for a while?”
“I will, for the next year. You have my ring, you have my soul, and I’m never going anywhere. I want the fucking lot with you. I want you carrying my kids, and I promise you wouldn’t do it alone. I’ll be there every step of the way.”
She giggles. “How did it go from kid to kids?”
“I’ll put as many in you as you’ll let me.”
Her giggle turns into a laugh, and she leans up on her elbow to mirror me.
“How about we practice a lot for now, and in a year, we’ll talk again. And we’ll definitely talk again after the first to see if I can go through the pain of childbirth more than once.”
Biting down on my grin, I nod. “I can do that.”
“When did you go so soft on me? You went from asshole to wanting a soccer team.”
Pushing her onto her back, I roll on top of her and use my knees to spread her legs.
“I’ll always be your asshole. I’ll just be a daddy too.”
