“So, you like Cora’s meat pies?” asked Metheus. His smile was friendlier, and there was a little twinkle in his eyes. Still, I was unhappy about him asking about his female friend’s cooking.

“Yes,” I admitted reluctantly. Metheus stood only a few inches from me, and my breathing had become shallow. Darned Francilia talked about keeping me away from any kind of danger. Yet, she decided to chat with Razuku and the rest.

“I believe you deserve a prize for staying under the heat of the sun for so long,” he said.

“Do you think I never spent time in the outdoors?” I asked. Of course, I rarely ventured out, but I did not want him to know that. For some reason.

He laughed, but I was not offended this time.

“It does not matter. You were supposed to get these, anyway. I brought them with me because I was not sure where to keep them in my room.”

“What are they?” I asked, excited.

“Take the leather pouch tied around my belt. My hands are dirty.”

I gave him a cold look. Was he already ordering me, and we were not even married yet? But I wanted to see my gifts. I then gingerly untied the pouch from his belt, careful not to touch his hips. I could tell my face had become very red.

“I brought them for you,” he said earnestly.

I opened the leather pouch. Inside were several gems of different kinds: rubies, emeralds, and even diamonds.

‘Thank you,” I gushed. They were indeed very generous gifts, even for a spouse-to-be.

On the way back to the castle, however, he was back to ignoring me. It was like the soil had some kind of magic on him, and when we were away, that magic was gone.
