“Hmm,” Tilly said, taking a sip of her Slurpee “I’m not so sure. I’ll, um…have to try them to make an official decision.”

“You’ve never had a Reese’s before? I call bullshit.”

“Correction” She put one finger up. “I’ve never had a Reese’s under these circumstances. You’re laying down a flavor challenge, Wyatt. Therefore, I cannot draw from past experience; I need to taste them right here, right now.”

“Sounds reasonable,” I said, laughing. “Did you just say ‘therefore’?”

“Yep,” she said, looking proud. “Got a problem with that?’

“Nope, it’s sexy as hell,” I said, leaning into her ear and wrapping my arm around her waist. I kissed her neck and murmured, “You’re like a sexy professor.”

“Nope. A sexy judge.”

“Ah, that’s right.”

“Yep, and don’t you forget it. Now, let’s pay for these so I can make my official ruling.”

“I love when you nerd out on me.”

“Hey, you’re way more of a nerd than I am.”

“And that’s why I appreciate these little moments. It’s like you’re appeasing me with nerdiness, making me forget that you’re completely out of my league.”

Her expression suddenly serious, she wrapped both arms around me. I could feel the coldness of the cup pressed against my back. “You don’t really mean that, do you?”

“Completely,” I said with a decisive nod. “But I’ve always been an overachiever.”

Tilly threw her head back in laughter, her lips already stained by the mostly cherry Slurpee in her cup. “Come on, crazy. Let’s go sample these flavors.”

“So, what’s the verdict, Your Honor?” I asked, nudging Tilly in the arm as she finished her Reese’s cup and washed it down with another sip of Slurpee.

“Hmmm,” she said, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. “It might be a tie. I seriously can’t choose. What do you think?”

“I gotta stick with my gut instinct—chocolate and peanut butter.”

She stuck her red tongue out at me. “You’re no fun.”

Waving my empty cup, I laughed. “This was good, though. I may just get it again.”

“Really? You’d abandon your standard Coke Slurpee?”

“Yeah, I think so.”

She threw both of her arms out and stared up at the bright sky. “It’s a miracle!”

Shaking my head, I reached for her hand. She squeezed mine in return, took another sip of her Slurpee, and sighed. “I love this day.”

“Spring ahead day?” I asked, placing my other hand against her forehead. “Do you have a fever or something? That’s bananas.”

“I do,” she said with a shrug. “It’s so nice to see the sun again. And every night, it’ll stay out longer and longer. Summer is on its way. Doesn’t that excite you?”

I stopped dead in my tracks. “No, but you do. You excite me.”

“Me?”

I gazed into her eyes, feeling like only they could express the devotion that I felt for the beautiful redheaded girl who stole my heart.

“Yes, Tilly Hamilton. You.”
