I hear the guys hoot and holler behind us, and I don’t care who else sees. I’m in love with Matthew Simms, and I want the entire world to know.

“You’re really here?” I pull back to look in his eyes.

“Of course I’m here. And I’ll continue to be here. I know the last few months have been hard with our schedules being so opposite, but that just means we have to change a few things.”

“But how?”

“All we need is the desire to make it happen, and it will. I already talked to my boss at UM. They want me to travel more to see some prospects. When I threw out planning my trips with your schedule, they were all for it.” He pauses and leans down to look me in the eye. “We will make this happen. Never doubt us.”

I wrap my arms around him, feeling more alive than I have in months.

“I won’t. I promise.” I hold him tighter.

Being onstage is my dream, but being in his arms is my heaven. And, yes, I feel now, seeing him here, that I can have both. It will take work, but I need to let love in, and I know Matthew will always be the one who’s worth the pain of every second of being apart.

All I need to know is, someday soon, we’ll be back together.

EPILOGUE

Hannah

Three Years Later

I kick back and rest my feet up on the ottoman in our new living room. The band just finished the tour for our second album, dedicating the last show as a fundraiser for research for dementia in honor of my mom.

Even though it’s been hard, Matthew and I have made it work. UM stood by their word and allowed him to travel to areas based on my schedule, and he’s found some great talent that he might not have found otherwise. When the team made it to the College World Series, we all celebrated, and I even got a few days off to go cheer them on.

He hasn’t forgotten about his own team either, and the older they got, the farther they traveled. His goal was to get every kid signed to play in college, and though he’s got one more year before his first class graduates, he’s already gotten nine committed to colleges before they even start their senior year.

After traveling the US, the guys all decided there was no better place to live than Mason Creek, so after we finished our first tour, we all moved back here.

Cole always loved being at the soundboard, so when he built his place on the outskirts of Mason Creek, he included a recording studio, so none of us had to leave when working on our next album.

Matthew and I took our time to decide where we wanted to live. At first, I stayed with him at his place, and no matter how tiny it was, we made it work. We had each other, and all the space we needed.

When Wilder told Matthew he was thinking of selling the property, we took that as our hint to figure out what we wanted as our forever home.

Once Matthew learned that a property up at the lake was for sale, it was an easy choice.

We started working with an architect and began building the home of our dreams.

As I look out at the lake I’ve always loved, I know we made the best choice. There’s no better place to unwind than here with the one I love.

Matthew enters the room, giving me a huge grin when he sees me relaxing.

“Now, this is a view I can get used to,” he says, facing me and not the huge picture windows we installed that look out over the lake.

I tilt my head with a smile as I reach out my hand to him. “Come join me.”

He obliges, and I curl into his side as he rubs his hand up and down my thigh.

I inhale a deep breath and let it out, feeling completely at ease with everything in my life right now.

He kisses the top of my head. “I promised we’d be here someday.”

I glance up at him. “You did. I’m so glad we are too.”

“There’s only one thing missing.”
