“It’s five somewhere,” Ax said set his beer on the bar in front of him. “

Red walked in.

Mountain stood and walked over to his Prez. “Red, can I talk to you for a minute.”

“Sure. Grab your beer. Let’s go into my office.” Red leaned onto the bar. “Hey Ax, give me a water.” After Red grabbed water, he led the way down the hall and into his office. He took his seat at the big office chair behind the desk and waved to Mountain to take one of the leather chairs across from the desk.

“What’s going on?” Red asked. “Preacher Girl is trying to earn bonus points with me and actually set my first appointment late this morning.”

Mountain smoothed his beard before answering, “I wanted to talk to you about that chick, Amber.”

“Not another lemonade stand?”

“No.” Mountain laughed and put his foot on his other leg. “Do you have any openings for nursing staff at the clinic?”

“Well, I don’t really have an opening, but what’s this about?” Red leaned forward on his desk.

“She lost her job and is looking for another one,” Mountain explained. “Kids like it here, and well I’m hoping to keep her close.”

“You hooked on her or something?” Red grinned as he raised his brow.

“Yeah, something like that I guess.” Mountain took a swig of courage. “Missed her when I lived in Berrington and I know she wants a little stability for the kids.”

“That’s a commute,” Red said. “You sure she wants to tackle that in the winter?”

“You ever have a feeling about a person?” Mountain asked.

Red glanced down to a framed picture on the desk in front of him.

Mountain assumed Roadkill was smiling from the photo. “Well, I hope to eventually bring her here to Turnabout. I think a job would do the trick.”

“What if we like her and shit goes south?” he asked, playing a little Devil’s advocate.

“As long as she isn’t uncomfortable,” he said, spreading his arms wide. “I’m good, but really who could resist all this?”

Red laughed. “Well, we could make a position for her. Let me talk to Roadkill and I’ll see what we can up with. Do you know how many years she’s been nursing?”

“I don’t know that much about her. How old are you when you graduate from nursing school?” he asked.

“Depends, I’m assuming she’s not an LPN, but RN is two years, BSN four, if she went further I’d assume she did that while working.”

“How many acronyms do you know?” Mountain questioned with a shake to his head.

“Between the Army, Ranger, and med school, I’ve lost count.”

“I can have her come in for a formal interview and you can ask her all those questions.”

“Yeah, tell her to come by,” Red said. “I know she’s done trauma work and it would be nice to have another pair of hands. Especially, ones that have an in, up in Billings.”

Mountain took another drink. Thinking about Callum and wondering if he should prep Red or would that be stupid, considering he would be making an exception in the position. Then again he also had a bit of trust always hovering around with the Steels.

“Something bothering you?”

Mountain scratched along his jawline. “Not sure, it’s really hers to tell you about.”

“And yet,” Red said.

“First it’s an acronym,” Mountain said. “And I don’t want to get it wrong.”
