By the time Saturday hit, Mountain still hadn’t gotten enough sack to call Amber. He couldn’t believe Amber had just drove out of his life like that, over a stripper being by him. As much as he wanted to explain about Cinnamon being just a club Hoez, how do you explain something like that to a woman like Amber?

Church was on the schedule for the day. They still hadn’t discussed what had happened the day Blood Sports showed up at the park. Red had put it off until now. Having never sat in on a member’s meeting, he didn’t know where the officers and fully patched stood. It wasn’t his place to ask and the last thing Mountain wanted to do was push too far, but they had approached him. Touched his cut and more importantly scared the woman he wanted to claim. At least one he’d hoped to once he figured out a way to explain the life and how he thought she fit perfectly in it. Was it wrong that he got hard when she threatened to tear off his arm? Shit if she would have added that she would beat him with he might not have been able to control himself.

Having been at the garage all day, doing what he could, he stopped by Maggie’s to give Kristy a report. Someone had stolen her knee cart because she’d been trying to sneak out. Especially when Beno chose to take naps. As much as she was enjoying mommy time, the woman needed to feel as if she was doing something, so he brought her an alternator that needed a fix before he could put it back in. She glared at him for a moment and he promised to bring her more the next day. Sighting his own inability to get the parts out of the car fast enough and church being called.

When he stepped into the clubhouse, he approached the bar. Nerves buzzing in his gut like a hive that had been kicked. He wondered if they were ready for him. With a twist to his wrist, he checked his watch. They had said ten o’clock he was to meet with them. It was near ten o’clock exactly. He’d done as much distracting as he could handle and now, he wanted to present his side of the case, but he knew they had to call for him to enter the room.

Kid was shifting around behind the bar. The prospect was making his own way in the club. Kid, like him had a longer road to fully patched, but that was an age thing, not past acquaintances. It was just too damn bad his mom wouldn’t let him ride a motorcycle yet. It would be hard to make him a patched member from the hatchback he drove.

“Hey Kid, what are you up to today?” Mountain made his way toward the bar.

Kid snagged a water out of the fridge, then opened it and took a long drink. “I’m just starting a shift working behind the bar. What are you up to Mountain?”

“Got church. I should get in there. They said ten, don’t want to be late.” Mountain checked his watch again and it was two minutes till ten. He would be just in time if headed up now.

“Take it easy and good luck.” Kid smiled. Although he seemed to be happy at the club it was the teen’s senior year of high school and Mountain hoped he would decide to go to college. Baldy had been teaching him in the garage quite a bit, so the kid was ready for a good tech school.

Walking toward the conference room, he made his way over to the double set of doors that contained the men. He leaned up against the wall and waited for someone to invite him in like he was a damn vampire whose skin would erupt in flames if he dared cross the threshold uninvited. Only he was a cool vamp, ready to move on to another victim. Yearning to get in the room, but ready to turn into a bat and fly away if necessary. When the door opened and Cass appeared Mountain let the breath he’d been holding.

“Mountain, come on in.”

Mustering what he could of courage, he stepped inside.

All the members were in there so not just the officers telling him it was voting, not dictates being discussed.

Red leaned back in his chair. “Look Mountain, we asked you in here because the Blood Sports showed force with you this week.”

“More than once,” he stated taking one of the empty chairs. “Though they only approached me once, the other was a hover maybe to let me know they were following me, or seeing me.”

“Where was that?” Red asked.

“A county park, edge of Berrington, most don’t go there,” he said. “It wasn’t like the soccer fields, they wouldn’t have randomly shown up there.”

“And at the fields?”

“Yeah, they showed up at the field when I was there with Amber and the kids. They wanted me to deliver a message to you, Red. Said they wanted the second shipment of guns and were tired of waiting. If you want my opinion?”

Red held up his hand, “Just a minute. I’ll listen to your opinion once you hear our decision. We’ve talked about it and decided to do this gun run for the Blood Sports. They showed their strength to you and I’m sure it was uncomfortable with Amber and her kids, but they came to us in good faith and we didn’t respond. I’ll speak with their president again, and tell him no more of that will be tolerated, especially if they want this to be a regular thing, but we’re going to do the run. It’s easy money and although there’s a clear split, the majority of the members want to do this and I have to respect them.”

“I was going to say I thought it was a good idea to do business with them. They seem like a honest club, trying to figure out the way and they tend to stay to their own territory. Also, they didn’t scare Amber, but a threat was made in her direction. Spike, their VP, was just stroking his cock.” Although Mountain was comfortable with the run, he wasn’t going to allow his brothers to take a hit solo. His word had to mean he would step into the same line of fire. “Can I ask a favor though?”

“Sure. Speak up.” Red rubbed his chin. “In a few days your patch will be official, your word carries as much weight as the rest.”

“I want to go on the run.” Mountain waited while Red took in the mood around the room.

The members who were nodding their heads, were probably the ones who’d voted to do the run in the first place. Seemed right, Freaky was the one who’d spearheaded the damn thing last time.

“You can go with on the run. Because on Wednesday, you’ll be a member. We just got word Baldy is coming home and you and Ax will be patched in. Invite your Ol’ Lady. It will be good to get to know her before she starts working in the clinic.”

Mountain’s first instinct was to tell him Amber wasn’t his Ol’ lady, especially after what happened in the restaurant, but why correct what they assumed and open her up to all the single men in the meeting. While he had to fix the mess he made, the last thing he wanted was competition cutting into his time. Claimed women were sacred, revered in a way he wanted her to be treated. Special. Chosen and more importantly, persona non grata to any swinging dick. They were sisters to each man. A woman they would kill for, but never in a million years see as anything beyond that. “Will it be a picnic or party?” he asked. “Middle of the week and all.”

“Rose and Kid are gonna be on some school break for fall, snow’s coming next Friday if the weather man isn’t lying. Let’s have a picnic. Big outdoor picnic and bon fire will be a perfect day. The Ol’ Ladies will get it together for us. Congratulations Mountain.” Red slammed his gravel on the table. “Meeting dismissed.”

Mountain stood up and left with the other men slapping his shoulder as they passed. He had a phone call to make and he didn’t know how it was going to go. Taking the stairs to the third level two at a time, he made his way to his room. Damn, he was such a pussy, he needed Spot as emotional support animal for this one.
