“Of course.” Amber nodded and smiled. She took the kids by the hands. “Mountain, you lead the way.”

He led them over to a picnic table. “Sit down here. The other kids will all be coming soon. It’s just getting started.”

A loud bark came from the porch as Creature bounded down the steps and toward the table.

“Creature,” Red warned, his tone commanding even though everyone, but Amber and the kids knew the dog was excited. Her tail whipping back and forth so fast excited to see new kids for the first time.

“Mountain.” Amber stood behind the kids, a hand wrapped protectively over each of their chests.

“She’s harmless I promise,” he said and turned to see Creature with her chest down on the ground and ass in the air. “She’s asking to play.”

“She?” Amber asked.

“Yeah, this is Creature,” he explained. “Creature, ball.”

The dog took off around the side of the clubhouse, fishtailing her hind end due to her warp speed and quickly came back to drop the ball at Maisie’s feet.

“She does tend to like the girls more than boys on the compound,” Mountain explained. “Maisie, you want to say hi? Throw the ball for her?”

Creature nudged the ball with her nose closer to Maisie.

Mountain took a knee. Making a fist, he let Creature sniff his hand though she was far from interested since she knew him. “Make a fist,” he said.

Maisie did before bringing her hand to Creature who sniffed, then licked her knuckles before going chest down on the ground, again practically begging to play at this point.

“Want to toss the ball?” Mountain asked.

Maisie smiled and picked up the well chewed tennis ball before tossing it as far as she could sending Creature on a retrieval mission at mock one.

“Me next!” Callum clapped.

“When she brings the ball back, have Maisie give it to you so Creature knows you want to play.”

Before long, Creature’s tongue was half out of her mouth, but she kept bringing the ball to each kid, one at a time.

With each drop of the ball, Amber’s body relaxed and was even invited into the game by the pit mutt.

Amber satat the table stuffed full of food and watched Mountain as he played with the kids. They were racing around the yard and dodging each other. Maisie, for a change, was having just as much fun as Callum was. Amber noticed Mountain wasn’t pushing Callum too much and she was glad for it. Pain be damned on the back end, he would push himself and she noticed Mountain checking in with her when he picked Callum up and spun him. The group was fun and she couldn’t believe at large gathering of people, there could be such a strong feeling of family and belonging. Everyone was being so nice to her and the kids.

“Hey Nightingale. Do you want to come and join me and the other Ol’ Ladies over by the bonfire? We’re just getting our drinks and enjoying the fire.” Roadkill leaned down on the table next to her.

“Did Mountain tell you to call me that?” she questioned.

“It’s a thing that happens,” Roadkill replied with a laugh. “Especially when a man has his sights on a woman and with you being so far away in Berrington, I’m surprised Mountain hasn’t glued binoculars to his face.”

“Seriously?” Amber shook her head, then glanced over to Cinnamon who was snagging a beer from a cooler.

Roadkill followed her gaze. “A necessary evil,” Roadkill said.

Amber felt embarrassed as she refocused on Roadkill. “What is?” she asked though both women knew exactly what she meant.

“We have lots of single men in the club, high testosterone and need to release it.”

“He and her—”

With a flick of her wrist, Roadkill held her hand up to stop Amber. “A thing you have to accept is the fact more than one of the Hoez living around you, has probably wet your man’s dick more than once,” she began. “That being said, as long as it was before you… who gives a fuck? You want a man holding your past fuck buddies and exs up to you?”
