Ryan and Lily hit it off right away, to the relief of Lisa. Lily flirted with him unabashedly, showing off her chest as only someone with giant boobs is able to do, and Lisa was amused, watching Ryan play right into her hands. It would be more difficult for Lily to call the cops on someone she liked once Lisa called it off for good. If she had to, she’d confess to Ryan, and they’d move on with their lives.

Lisa told Daniela to corral the children into the living room with the adults and it worked. Lily got the full exposure to life at the Maddox resident.

“I see what you mean about the kids,” Lily said. “They sure have a lot of energy.”

“It’s like this until bedtime.”

“No wonder you’re so tired at night,” she said, and that got Ryan’s attention.

“When do you see her at night?”

“Oh, I don’t see her, I mean when we chat on Facebook.”

Lily finally left. Lisa thought she’d be able to break it off now that Laura had supposedly seen them together, and this time she had to be firm about it.

“I didn’t know you went on Facebook,” Ryan said later that evening.

“She’s got me confused with someone else,” Lisa said. “We don’t even text.”

That night, she sent a rare text to Lily.Meet me at the beach access at eleven?

In seconds, she got the return message.Eleven it is.

“Don’t ever do that again.”

She didn’t even bother to say hello, fury growing since the unwanted visit.

“You’re crazy, Lisa. I’ll do what I want.”

“We’re finished, then. You go ahead and tell mom and dad you’re gay, and I’ll tell Ryan we’ve been seeing each other, and that will finish it.”

“And I’ll make that phone call to the cops,” Lily said.

“You don’t love me,” Lisa said. “It’s not possible to love someone and want to hurt them like you want to hurt me.”

She turned to walk away.

“Where are you going?”

“Go make your call. Tell mom and dad to expect me tomorrow after I get my children off to school.”

Lily had to jog to keep up with her. “Why are you being like this?” she cried.

“You’re insane, you know that, Lily? You really think you can threaten me like that? You have another thing coming.”

“Wait! I promise, Lisa, I’m not threatening you. I won’t say anything to the police. Promise we’ll keep seeing each other.”

“I have to think about it, Lily. You’ve betrayed my trust. You want to hurt my children, deprive them of their father. That doesn’t feel loving to me. Why would I want to spend one more second with you?”

They had reached Lisa’s part of the beach. “Go back,” she hissed. “I’m going inside.”

“Text me, please,” Lily said, following her up the dune.

“Lily, leave!”

“Kiss me first, please, Lisa.”

“Okay, but then you have to leave.”
