“No. Don’t go back to your house. It’s not safe.”

Alphé watched Calista moving around his kitchen. There was nothing foreign about it. She was his family.

“I think you should move in here with me permanently.”

Frowning, Calista turned her back to busy herself on the stove with nothing cooking.

“Where did that come from?”

“I’m thinking we should make whatever this is—” he switched his finger between the two of them “—permanent.”

“Alphé, you need full-time childcare and housekeeping,” she said, laughing.

Then his thoughts went elsewhere, a little stirring in his groin. She was petite. Lola and Katrina were Amazons compared to Calista. He’d never acknowledged an attraction to her before because she was his brother’s wife.

“It’s more than that. You’re really beautiful,” he said, picking up his cup.

“Alphé, you’re funny.”

“Why? We never crossed the line before. It feels right to me now.”

“What about Katrina?”

“I love Katrina. But you see where she is, right? Katrina will never marry me. She’s there, two blocks away, and here you are, cooking my breakfast. I want a wife.”

“Now we’re getting somewhere,” she mumbled, slightly insulted.

Calista bit her lip. She’d felt no attraction to Alphé. Not like she did with Rodney or even Austin. Alphé was a little too lanky. It scared her. But now that he voiced it, it made sense.

“Our kids are related,” she said. “That would make it easy.”

“It’s more than that, though. Do you want to test it out?”

“How?”

“We could take it to the next level. We’re already friends and family. Will you go out on a date with me?”

“Katrina, Alphé. Doesn’t she have some say in this?”

“I’ll tell her tonight that I want to try it out.”

“You make it sound like I’m a test drive for a car.” But she laughed.

“You know what I mean,” he said, grinning at her. He looked at his watch. “I wonder where Lola is. If I’m going to church, I’d better leave now.”

“Go. I’ll explain everything to her.”

He took his plate and mug to the sink. Deciding to be bold, he gently took her in his arms and held her to his body. Her little breasts were so soft, he could barely feel them.

“Can I touch your breasts?” he whispered.

Warmth from his voice flowed over her body and settled between her legs.

“Okay. There’s not much there.”

She’d just said those words to Austin a few days before.

His hand crept under her shirt, and he closed his eyes, kneading her soft flesh. Compared to Lola and Katrina, who were big on top, this was something really different. He liked it.
