The woman who’d broken through every single barrier had almost lost her life because of my carelessness.

Anger swept through me as usual, my senses prickling. One day Rojas and I would meet.

The DEA’s stolen information had also proven to be a death sentence for several informants and key witnesses, the entire week a bloody battle that had nothing to do with the Bratva or even the fucking Italians.

However, the Colombians had received our message loud of clear, backing off on further enflaming the situation.

For now.

They were nothing but venomous snakes lying in wait. The fact I’d taken out Rojas’ second in command had splashed across the ocean like wildfire. Another war would ensue, but not until the bastards had finished basking in their glory of taking down part of the sainthood of enforcers while being forced to wallow in self-pity that their attempt at full takeover of New York hadn’t gone exactly as planned.

I chuckled as my second in command rolled down the neighborhood street, broken sidewalks and trash-covered dirt for lawns flashing by one after another. I felt lucky. I’d never thought of being born into such a wealthy family that way. Perhaps I’d been programmed to take things for granted. So much had changed.

A truce had been put into place with the Vinchetis, although the members of Giada’s family weren’t any happier about it than Alexei or myself. We’d accept our father’s decision, but that wouldn’t always be the case in the future.

I had two items that required being handled. Both would occur today. Then I would wash my hands of the stench of blood, if only for a little while.

“Do you need assistance?” Sanchez asked. He knew he owed me for losing my bride.

“Not this time. This one I need to do alone.” I sat in the passenger seat, staring at the unassuming house. “Just have Vassily prepared to clean the area.”

“And the body?”

“Toss him into the river. Let the DEA wonder what happened.”

“What about Vincheti?”

I took a deep breath, holding it for a few seconds. What I’d like to do to the man had nothing to do with what would happen. “We are at peace. Remember that.”

He snorted. “Yeah, like that’s going to make you happy.”

“Perhaps I’ve learned patience over the last two weeks, my friend. However, you know what they say about a caged lion.”

He faked shivering audibly. “I wouldn’t want to be a piece of prime rib around you. That’s all I’m saying.”

As I walked toward the snitch’s house, I buttoned my jacket. I’d borrowed Giada’s precious knife, promising that I’d return it in exactly the same shape.

And I’d never broken a promise to her.

What she didn’t know is that the blade already had spots of dried blood.

Smiling, I kicked in the door.

Posh, private clubs. There were several in New York City. I’d been forwarded many invitations over the years but the last thing I’d wanted was to spent time around pontificating assholes who believed their shit didn’t stink.

However, it was necessary to break my own rules in order to handle my last piece of business. I knew I’d find the good senator slugging back a whiskey or five, laughing and bragging with his buddies about how he was responsible for bringing portions of the various crime syndicates to their knees.

Sanchez flanked my side as I strode into the establishment, bypassing the hostess altogether. She didn’t try to stop me. Neither did anyone else. They knew better. I found him easily, his booming voice drawing my attention the moment I stepped foot into the main salon. This particular club was for men only, but that didn’t rule out a juicy female or two, especially the cocktail waitresses. They all looked like they’d come from Barbie University, their blonde hair and big tits carbon copies.

I moved toward his table, cognizant that almost everyone in the room stopped what they were doing, gawking at me as if World War Three was ready to start.

If only I could wipe them out with a single incident.

After reaching his table, I plastered on my usual smile. Then I gave his companion a single look that was as effective as I had intended.

He quickly left, grabbing his drink then heading far enough away he wouldn’t be in my grasp.
